Where do I Create a Small Gallery?

I’d like to create a small 4 or 5 picture gallery to demonstrate the kind and quality of the work I sell. My TIFFs run around 150MB. I’m guessing I could downsize them to say an 8x10 high quality JPG that would be around 5MB.

I want a high quality site that will show the detail and full range of tones in my photos. This gallery will hopefully add authenticity to my posts.

Any suggestions for sites and downsizing parameters would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

SmuMug and Zenfolio are popular and allow you to sell also if you wish.

Flicker is free ... sure there are others.

a 10 meg crop of your original should suffice.
resizing or down sampling the image destroys anything meaningful.

The image size in pixels wide by pixels high should be at least as big as the highest resolution display you want to market to. 1920x 1200 has been a standard for a while but with 4K and 5K displays, you will need more if you want to full the screen. A 5k display has 14.75 mp (5120 x 2880 pixels) and you'll have to balance that against load time. The last thing you want is an image that takes 30 secs to load, so you should keep the quality setting to around 60-65% for fast viewing.

Zenfolio shows images very well, and they can be used to store tif, psd, jpeg and raw. The more expensive annual plans are e-commerce enabled. They use Mpix as a printing service. Alternately, Flickr is decent, as is SmugMug and countless other sites.

At first, I thought you meant an actual physical gallery. So here's a thought. I've seen paintings and photos displayed in local stores, libraries, and banks. They have all that wall space, and it could generate traffic for them. You can put up new photos every month or so.

As for posting online, millions of people are doing that. You can make your own site or accept free posting privileges from several sites that offer it. Your Internet provider probably offers some kind of free site.

Dan,

I use WIX.com for my happy snaps. It is free. View sample of mine at www.naturescamera.com

Some of the others that have been suggested also work well.

Presuming the poster wants exposure. No exposure to a large market on UHH. Only a few hundred members here.

When you log into UHH, you rarely see more than 300 to 400 members logged in. It would be interesting to know where that multi thousand count comes from on the site. Number logged in at any give time do not support that count.

It looks to me like the OP is looking for a marketing venue, which is surely not UHH.

I use Fine Art America. I chose it for one reason and one reason only after comparing it to SmugMug, Zenfolio, Etsy, etc.: It's name. I didn't want to be associated with smugs, mugs, zens, folios, or etsies. I wanted to be associated with Fine Art.

You always give such useful information in a direct and concise way. I appreciate that.

Why would a pro, even a self-described one like yourself, need to ask this question? Do you really not know the answer?

Dan, for so few pics just post them in the Gallery with a title such as My Gallery. If you want someone to see them, just tell them to go to those in your Posts Created. Simple.
I already go to anyone's posts and see what they've posted if they come on here and start to tell us how good they are or get how bad I am!!! LoL
