Traveling next year to Argentina & Brazil.Traveling visa required for Brazil only. Over $200 for a few hours at Iguassu Falls. Will be able to see falls within Argentina for photos. Question for you photographers..Is it worth few hours & big bucks for visa ( X2..Wife also) ? From photo standpoint.
I see the bottom of falls from Argentina side but I' m told I will see a top, panoramic view only on Brazil side. What' your opinion ?
Trip is already big expense.
? Many thanks

How many more times do you suppose you'll have the opportunity to re-visit the area? If this is it, it's worth the money.

To bad you didn't go last month, three was NO visa cost for Brazil, at least not from the U.S.
I would not spent an extra $200 to see the Brazil side. Just see the Argentina side more. Spend the $200 to take a helicopter ride. Probably the only way to get really good pics anyway if that's what you're after.
I was just there 3 weeks ago and saw both sides!

I was there quite awhile ago, but I have never seen anything like it (and I will never forget it). Take advantage of the opportunity to see a true wonder of the world.

Of the three massive falls in the world, Niagara, Victoria, and Iguazu, I find Iguazu to be the most impressive (I have visited all 3) Seeing the falls from both sides of the border is an imperative not to be missed. In a few months you will forget the money; you will remember the falls forever. http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/24/travel/iguazu-falls-bucket-list/.

I was there about 5 years ago. It was well worth getting the visa. At that time, you could only take the helicopters from the Brazil side. Things may have changed since I visited. A helicopter ride is also worth the investment. I would not want to go that distance and leave Iguassu feeling like I missed something. The hotel inside the park is also worth booking. Hope you bring lots of mosquito repellant, they are abundant down there. Enjoy your trip it is beautiful.

Went in 2012. The falls are in Argentina which has created great access to them. We did not go to Brazil because of time and the visa cost. But if I went to Brazil, I would spend the really big bucks to take the helicopter tour. Elinor Roosevelt upon seeing the Iguazu Falls about a hundred years ago said, "Poor Niagara."

What is the cost of the trip overall?
Then what percent of that trip is $400.00?
Will you ever return to this location?
Then put a value on the photos.
I would personally spend the $. You obviously have plenty of disposable income so money should not be an issue or you would not be taking the trip and what is a measly $400.00 more to see the sights and photograph them?

Saw both sides in 2011. The Brazilian side gives you a panoramic perspective you don't get on the Argentina side. Can't tell you how to spend your money, but, if I was going back, I would.

The majority of responses to the OP immediately called to mind a couple with whom my wife and I are close friends. They are quite comfortable financially and frequently travel to some of the places that we also have visited. Upon their return from such trips we ask them if they had done a particular excursion, seen a noteworthy sight, taken an optional tour, etc. Almost invariably the answer is that they had considered it, but it was too expensive. When traveling they find the cheapest accommodations and are very frugal about restaurant choices. Yet, they have a new car every couple of years and are generous with their adult children and grandchildren. They often speak of the inheritance they wish to leave to their children. They have often suggested taking a trip with us and, as much as we enjoy their company, we've managed to avoid that issue, knowing that it would be a disaster.

It would seem that this issue is illustrative of two very different values. Some folks define quality of life in terms of things. Others define it in terms of experiences. I would suggest that the majority of serious photographers would fall into the second group.

The falls make Niagara look like a leaky faucet! Don't miss them.

AND do not forger the boat ride toward the cataract. Make sure you can protect your camera and still shoot (maybe Olympus Tough water proof) . I have seen a few waterfalls , including Niagara (not Victoria) , but the Iguazu from the Argentina side are just the best. Also go to a buffet dinner with performance .
