I think most Kindles are color now, except possibly the least expensive ones. The Kindle I have is monochrome but I have had it for awhile. I have the Kindle app on a couple tablets and on computers and they are fine. I think the app is always color. My granddaughter has had 2 Kindle Fires and they are color. If you get a Fire it will be color.

Paper manufacturing is one of the most polluting industries worldwide. Reading on an E-Reader is sustainable vs. crunching trees into paper.

Sustainable to a point, until the e-reader gives up the ghost and stops working.

In the past, Nook did trade-in deals to upgrade.

Hey rgrenaderphoto - You clearly have not thought through the environmental consequences of e-readers. A paper book sequesters carbon, at least until some progressive demands you burn it. Anyone who wishes to “save the planet” should buy and save paper books. Recycling of paper and cardboard waste also is environmentally unsound. Throw all that waste material in a landfill and cover it up. Doing that, sequesters the waste’s carbon and helps prevent the destruction of the world by Global Warming.

Recent “science”, as revealed to Obama, proves Global Warming is the greatest threat to the USA, so buy and keep those paper books.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite, and it's black and white. However I do have a Samsung Android tablet, and the Kindle software on it is in color. Also, it's in color on my Mac and my PC.

I'm on my third Kindle. My first is a black & white e-reader that I still have. My second was a Kindle Fire that I gave to my Grandson. My current Kindle is a Fire HD that I use constantly to read books, play games and take photos. The only drawback I have with it is that I have to connect to an available Wi-Fi to access the net.

I don't doubt it, just think of what you wouldn't know without um though... as far as crunching trees.... pretty sure you live in a wood framed house.

I have two kindles. One is a kindle keyboard and the other is the kindle paper white. Both are the monochrome epaper versions. The reason for the epaper is it is front lighted like a book. This reduces eye strain. The display on the kindle fire is a back lit LCD just like a laptop or most other tablets. If you are reading books the eyestrain is a lot greater.

I have over 1000 books on my kindle. Everything from all the works of Mark Twain to the latest dime store novels. The great thing about a kindle is you can carry a number of books while traveling. A few years ago I was on a Seismic Research vessel. Offshore Papla New Guinea. I read my last book. The trip was taking longer than planned and I was on my second month. I was able to connect to the internet via the ships satellite system and purchase another book from Amazon. Try doing that with paper novels.

Like many others I would not purchase an ereader because why pay $150 to read books. I was given one for Christmas in 2010 and have purchased very few paper books since then. Also Kindle books take a lot less space on my bookshelf. Which is overflowing and threating to take over my office. :-}

Ebooks are best on an epaper reader. The experience is very close to a paper book without the bulk.

I have been toying around to purchase a kindle Fire to read magazines. They are trying to take over my living room.

Text Books or reference books are better in paper. But I do have a few reference books on my reader. I have PDF's of all my camera manuals because my ereader is with me everywhere I travel. It is great for Dr Offices and Airports. Makes the time pass quickly.

While I prefer reading "analog" books and have an extensive library, the Kindle is great for reading late at night with the lights off. I can lie on my side with it propped up on it's cover and just tap it to change pages.

I use a Kendle Paperwhite E-reader and that is black & white. I also get the same book on my iPad Pro which is color. I can switch back and forth between the two and the correct page comes up in either one where I stopped reading. Hope this answers your question!

The Kindle Fire (as previously stated) is a simply great tool and/or toy ... ! I read far more books now than I did while reading paper ... carry a great many more photos than I did before ... watch movies, play music, play games, waste time and, it makes a great bedside clock for our cruises and hotel stays ... and, you can use the Kindle reading apps on your Kindle reader or laptop or desktop or smart TV or ...

Kindles come in two basic varieties....E-Readers, and Tablets. The E-readers are just B&W. The Tablets-called Fires-are in color, and look good. Still, their resolution is not what some would prefer. Photos look good enough, for most purposes, on a Kindle. The Fire Kindles can also play games, and view movies, so that gives you some idea of their image handling ability.

Go to Amazon, drag down from 'Departments' to 'Fire Tablets', then slide over to one such as the 'Fire HD 10', and select that. It does not specifically mention color, but does show a colorful screen with blue background, green icons, etc. The Fires are tablets which do play movies, and not many B&W movies are being made, or watched, these days. The Fires have color capability, and look good. I have an older Kindle PaperWhite which is B&W, and mostly just a text only E-Reader. I also have a newer Fire HD 10, which plays: E-Books, Audio Books, video games, and movies....as in Hollywood blockbuster type movies. The Fire HD8 is good, too. My friend has one, and I have seen that. I suppose that you could find a way to load, and display, photographs on a Kindle, but I have not tried it so far, so I would not know how to go about it, or what might result. Some of the books you can load on a Kindle Fire have color photos in them.

If you connect the kindle with a USB, you can just transfer anything you want. It acts as another drive.
