Round barns, the "jug rock" and covered bridges in southwest Indiana.

Catch the "moon bow" at Cumberland Falls in Kentucky?

There are the traditional tourist traps in Connecticut but I would suggest three particular places: Suffield, Wethersfield, and Windsor (they are a short drive from each other).

Suffield has some awesome Victorians houses and a lot of colonials (from the colonial period); you can easily walk the historic district; there are other old colonial dwellings off the beaten path; visit 1st Baptist Church (it's not open generally) but once you see it you'll understand the photo opportunities that abound.

From Suffield travel south on Rt. 75 until it dead ends into Rt. 159; you will have the Windsor town green almost in front of you at this point. Travel north on Rt. 159 a very short distance and come into the historic district; travel a short distance south on 159 (just past the town center) and on your right will be an old colonial house dating to 1675 (yes, that's the right date).

Travel further south on 159 to the traffic light (look for a sign to I-91), turn right and get on I-91 South, go through Hartford until you come to the sign/exit for Old Wethersfield; Old Wethersfield is again picturesque with many colonial era homes. Walk out of the historic district and see some more of the beautiful homes in the area.

I did not mention Hartford, but it has the Colt building, Coltsville (a national historic site built around the old Colt manufacturing site), the Mark Twain House, as well as the Harriet Beecher Stowe House.

After your finished in Wethersfield get back on I-91 South to New Haven and Yale University. The tree towns I mentioned are doable in a single day.

Most of all, enjoy your trip!

So much to see, hard to pick and choose. The obvious, Acadia National Park, Cape Cod, historic Boston (try to get to a game at Fenway Park, which is great and I'm a Yankee fan). NYC will hard with your vehicle and I sugest parking outside the city and take piblic transport. As you're going to DC, you will unfortunately have to drive I95 and it's a terrible road. Traffic from Baltimore through northern VA is abysmal and beyond that it's boring and I would
Suggest getting off it as fast as you can. You can go as far south as Richmond, then get on I64 towards the coast and take roads like US13 or US17 and go tonthe Outer Banks. Beauford NC is a good place on the coast to see and further south, the USS North Carolina is anchored in Wilmington. Definately see SC Low Country and the GA coast and its islands too. In FL a place a lot of people miss is Blue Sorings State Park, north of Orlando. Scenery, lots of Manatees and no crowds to speak of. Have a wonderful and safe trip.
