Request for east coast photo locations

My wife and I will be traveling to and down the east coast in our travel trailer over the next three months. This will be the first time either of us has ever been to that part of the country, which brings me to my request: if you live in the east, or if you have traveled and photographed extensively there, would you be so kind as to share one or two of your favorite photo opportunities that shouldn't be missed? I'm certain we can find all the iconic photos, but I'm also interested in finding those little hidden gems that only the locals know about. I am primarily a landscape photographer, but for this trip I'll also be very interested in cityscapes, architecture, night shots and wildlife.

Here are the states we plan on visiting: Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Deleware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, W.Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, N.Carolina, S.Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas.

Since we will be getting on the road in the next day or two I will say thanks now to everyone who responds. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Roger

By all means, photograph the wild ponies and lighthouses of North Carolina's Outer Banks. There are great campgrounds throughout the banks. You will also see the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kitty Hawk and Roanoke Island, home of "The Lost Colony".

Don't miss Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Photo opps abound there and a harbor cruise is nice, too. Good shots from the boat approaching the harbor
on the return trip. Delaware is very nice and plenty of photo opps. The ocean and bay areas are close to one another (about 1 1/2 - 2 miles apart) This is the Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Bethanny Beach areas. All just a few minutes apart down Rte 1 (Coastal Hwy). There's also historic Lewes, DE. Very quaint and Cape Henlopen which is an historical beach with war time watch towers, etc.
Hope this helps.

Have fun, Personally we couldn't wait to move out to the west coast from DC. However, it will be very different and you may enjoy the east coast more. Who knows? Be aware of the humidity as well. Vermont is very cool, we have visited the state several times over the years. I wasn't into photography when we lived in NoVa, so I couldn't recommend many places. When we moved out to Oregon, we wanted to see the country and took a month to drive across. We skipped everything until we were in Western Nebraska - but we did purchase books for Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and of course Oregon. Helped us a lot to find things we were interested seeing.

I would also highly recommend http://roadtrippers.com/?lat=40.80972&lng=-96.67528&z=5

I hope I didn't sound too negative. Enjoy!!!

Sounds like my kind of trip. We full-timed for over 20 years, and didn't miss much. If you're driving from Maine to Nova Scotia don't miss Saint John in New Brunswick. There's a 'reversing falls' created by 40+ foot tides. Also in Nova Scotia, don't miss the Bay of Fundy for some great seascapes. The many small towns in Nova Scotia will fill more than a couple of memory cards. Wish I was traveling with ya. Have a great trip, and if you're near Corpus Christi when you hit Texas, give me a holler.
I've traveled the highways through every one of your planned states, in some cases many times. Good luck, plan well and keep shooting. djt

In Pennsylvania, both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia offer great architectural and historical photographic opportunities. Also, if you are going to be in Pennsylvania when the leaves are changing color, the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon" near Wellsboro, Pa. has great vistas. In Pittsburgh, the view of the city from Mt. Washington is spectacular and fantastic for both daylight and nighttime photography.
Florida has many, many opportunities for nature and wildlife photography. The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge near the Kennedy Space Center is one of my favorite places to photograph. If you stop there, be sure to take the Black Point Wildlife Drive. The Everglades is a must. The Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples has a great boardwalk through the swamp that allows for photography of birds, alligators, turtles, and other native Florida wildlife. And Gulf Coast sunsets are magical.

With so many locations, it's just not possible to list all the places for photo locations. You could spend the entire 3 months in NY City and not exhaust the possiblites. An idea. When in a given location, why not ask where the best photo locations are, in that area. Example- no point in going to Vermont any other time but october, so as to shoot the best fall leaf colors in the east. But you don't want to be in Northern New England in November unles you like cold weather. So, when you get to a place, give us a shout and ask.
