July 1960, RTC Camp Moffett. Those old barracks have all been knocked down and replaced with brick & mortar buildings. Then went to Charleston and Minesweeper, Exultant, MSO 441. Which also has been scrapped. . .

I arrived at Great Lakes on 04 January 1966. I was in Company 24.
Great Lakes in winter was the coldest place I had ever been to......Until they sent me to Iceland.
Great memories of those four years.
Great Lakes , December 18, 1958. A trifle nippy that time of year, Thanks to all for your service.

50 years ago today I started US Navy bootcamp at RTC Great Lakes.
Thank you for your service. I started mine at Great Lakes on September 5, 1063 (for some reason that is a date you never forget or the coke bottle in the trash can to wake you up!) The sad part of Boot Camp was that we graduated on November 22, 1963 (that is also something you never forget...where you were when JFK was assinated).
I was a senior in High School, sitting in 5th period English when the announcement came out over our speaker system.
Joined the Navy in Los Angeles and went to boot camp in San Diego in 1957.
Glakes September 8, 1950.
