My son has moved back to the states from France and stopped by this morning and dropped this mount and scope off. Sooooo, I have some new toys to play with but no skies. The Vixen SCT - 12 inch....looks huge compared to my 8 inch SCT. The mount has a 75lb payload.....I thought the Atlas Pro was heavy.

He bought these 6 years ago and the mount has been discontinued - trying to get a new manual from Vixen.

Daily thunderstorms are predicted for the next week. That's the south

I'm with Europa. OMG.
That makes my 11" Celestron look small.
Is that a homemade double mount saddle? It looks nice and solid.
Nice drop off indeed.
I hope you get some sky to play with.
Keep us posted.

It is an Vixen adapter (double saddle) that my son added to the mount when he bought it. This mount needs a permanent home. I fussed and groaned about using the Atlas Pro because it was so heavy - this is a beast. As soon as it gets cooler I plan to set it up and keep it covered......just the mount and tripod.

If you run out of room, you can send some of your excess gear out here to store it.

Monster mount!

You are just going to have to build an Observatory!

Too much kit for me - looks good but, I really believe my pictures would be any better than those I now take with my iOptron ZEQ25, Atlas Pro, and AVX mount. I am looking forward to the 12 inch OTA - it is a bastardized SCT really funky looking inside. The Japanese call it a modified cassegrain whatever that means.

Hum......I don't want to sound ungrateful but I wish he would have brought this over :)

This mount can hold 240 lbs. ....which is about what this 23 inch RC weighs.

Who buys this stuff ???

Not I.

Sure as hell, not I.

Edit in Afterthought:
How in the hell would any of us, or for that matter, ALL of us combined, move such a monster around?
