A tripod is even more stable so even more so, turn it off! Some of the newer lenses have a tripod mode and the VR can be left on when Tripod Mode is enabled.
Almost ALL canon lenses can be left on all the time as almost all are Auto Tripod sensing.

Turn off VR even when using a monopod? A monopod is not as stable as a tripod, and there is still a chance of movement.

I shoot sports (basketball, soccer, etc.,) and always leave mine on. Trust me,,,,,,,,there is movement with a monopod.

Every lens comes with a manual. The manual tells you when to turn of the VR and/or which VR setting to use for different conditions. If you can't find your lens manual, download one from the manufacturer's web site.

That is the one correct answer.
