When I was there in 1978, I just walked around pointing my camera at things and pressing the shutter button. With all the cell phones in use today, I'd be surprised if they tried to enforce a "no photography" rule ... but, then, I was told {by uniformed and armed cops} "no cameras allowed" when I tried to use my tiny Canon Elph to take a picture of the "L" station at Chicago's O'Hare Airport {I saw lots of cell phones being used to take pictures elsewhere in the airport.
Grand Central Terminal is all commuter rail now, so I don't know whose rules govern, but the usual Amtrak rule is that you're allowed to take a picture if you're allowed to be where you want to take the picture from.

That's an amazing building, and it came close to being torn down a couple of decades ago.
Did one of the photography tours thru Grand Central last year. Unique photo and Princeton photo workshop do them every once in awhile

I believe its tripods that are noy allowed....cameras are ok
I worked near GCT for a few years and brought my camera once in a while to shoot the exterior. Never shot the inside...too many people!
Great shots. We still have antique beauty left in this country, that needs to be left alone and maintained. These photos are proof. Thanks for sharing.

I think in 1996 or 1998 they started to clean the ceiling. Prior to the restoration, it was grey and grimy. Exhaust from the trains and people smoking over the years had covered the color of the ceiling.

And I remember hearing that the night sky isn't accurate.
Re the ceiling: during the massive cleaning project, one spot was intentionally not cleaned as a reminder of just how much grit and dirt had accumulated over the years.
I think it's in the northwest corner.
