Take a look at FastStone. It's free and apparently fairly popular.

GIMP is free and has practically all the features of Photoshop. I use Affinity Photo, but that's $149.

You can continue using Picassa. It just won't be available in the future or issue further updates. If you already have it you can use it as long as you wish.

All editing software has some type of learning curve, which does seem to be a problem for some photographers today. Both Corel and Topaz have actual paint effect programs and each works well, but again you will still need to figure out the software. Each one has a program for around $100 and both have programs that do more but cost more. I use Topaz Simplify for paint effects and Nik, On1, and other programs for other effects. You will have to decide which program works best for you and what it is you want to do. Most companies will let you try their software free for a month. Not all programs have paint-type effects but the plug-in and editing programs all have some type of filter effects so be clear about what you purchase. I have included a a couple of photos created by the filter effects in Topaz Simplify, they are all flowers as that seems to be what I usually do with that program. The program can create a heavier paint-type effect, I just do not use that technique.

Good luck.

I have used Photo Impact X3 for a long time and it is still available here for $29.99. Works with all windows OS. It was sold to Corel some years ago, but is still available as a download only.

If you have a computer with a fairly good connection you can watch many Youtube videos to get the grasp of Lightroom and Photoshop. Just put a little effort into it and you'll do fine.

Faststone is free (donations accepted), easier to use than Picasa, and has a multitude of features. It won't do what Lightroom and Elements will do, of course, but you'll not have a learning curve.

The Picasa installer is still available on Filehippo.com in case you loose your backup copy.

keep using your current version. the only thing that is going away is the updates and support. backup your current version and enjoy well into the future.

Take a look at ACDSee.com -- they have several levels of software at very affordable prices. Personally I have been using ACDSeePro for many years through many versions.

BTW, this topic has been discussed numerous times on previous postings -- did you search for answers before you started yet another discussion?

They dropped support. If you have it, it is still usable. Picasa was not noted for a lot of updates anyway. I do agree it is fast and easy to use.

In my opinion it would depend on how much post work you want to do. I use Fast Stone for all my smaller edits - simple stuff. It's also a viewer and it's free.

<<All editing software has some type of learning curve, which does seem to be a problem for some photographers today.>>

You got that right! At least it's true for old retired folks like me, I think. I have four editing programs on my computer (LR, PSE 14, FastStone, and SilkyPix, and don't find any of them easy, although FastStone may be the easiest. But, experts say that keeping an aging brain challenged helps preserve, or even improve, its functioning. My wife is trying to do that with puzzles. I much prefer trying to learn photo editing, frustrating though it may be at times.
