Blowing off Steam..........
Steam engines at the car show last weekend. We have some interesting shows in Oregon throughout the state. In addition to many custom and rod car shows, there are steam engine collectors. The biggest steam engine show I know of occurs in Junction City, near Eugene Oregon. Central Oregon is farm country and the largest produce farmed for decades was Potatoes.
Steam engines did the heavy work and many collect them and restore them. Here are a few. It's interesting to walk around these antiques and listen to the "chuffing" sounds and the "popoff" valves going off at regular intervals.
Most of these engines were running as I photographed them. This was about 30% of the steam engines in the show, then the tractors and a tractor pull. Show cars... 162 registered. Prineville Oregon (Central part of the state)
The annual "Dufur Threshing Bee" is home to a number of farm harvesting equipment... horse and steam driven. Near the Columbia Gorge.
I think those are gas powered "hit & miss" engines. Neat photos and always fun to see and hear their unique sound.
Collecting and maintaining these engines is popular in Illinois and Wisconsin - such exhibits often "collect" many young and enthusiastic viewers. Thanks, Kuzano, for sharing these nicely detailed photos.

You could certainly be right about the fuel. I don't see many steam chambers. I don't know anything about gas "hit and miss". That just smacks of the way some of my cars run. Tune up time??
I love steam engines. Nice pics. Thanks for the post

Photo Gallery exists for a reason. Figure it out.
All those engines are gas powered, not steam. A common misconception, since when they are running there is usually steam rising out of the coolant tanks. The 4th photo, the Fairbanks-Morse engine on the trailer, may be an early Diesel, which is what F-B is known for building.
Thanks for posting, even if, as was rudely noted, you put them in the wrong gallery. Something most of us have done from time to time.

You must hate your life, always harping at somebody who doesn't do what you like. You can always end your miserable life. We would appreciate it if you would do it soon.

Was at a county fair last fall and saw some of these old gas engines in action.
One was powering a corn grinder and another powering the belts the caused a hacksaw to cut pipe.
Others had no duties other than to run rough, smoke, leak oil and look neat.
There was also several old chains saw from the early nineteen hundreds on display.
I would of liked to see one of them in action or at least started up.

These little guys are actually gas powered hot or miss engines. My friend just sold his collection of 20+ of them and used the money to buy a new Ford F150 4x4.
Very interesting, Kuzano, and very well photographed!
