When I fell in the stream to my neck and my camera was submerged for, I would guess, somewhere between 30-45 seconds, I assumed it was ruined. When I managed to stand up, I removed the card and batteries and gave them to my hiking partner to keep dry and didn't get them back until last night. This morning I put one in the camera and to my amazement, the camera fired right up and took pictures at every setting I tried! Thank you to everyone on the hog who offered to sell me their gently used SX50s and who offered comments after my fall. I am still shaking my head.

I think f-u means "frowned upon".
Surely it means 'follow-up.'
Since this is a "follow up" post I am going out on limb and guessing the the "f u" stands for "follow up".
Please don't whip me too hard if I'm wrong!

Surely it means that it was a Canon...., what else could it be?
And, oh yea, I'd be f'ing happy too!!!

On the Penn and Teller tv show it means Fool Us. The FU award goes to magicians when Penn and Teller can't figure out their trick, or are fooled.

Of course, it means follow-up. It's a term that was/is used frequently regarding medical care, my former profession. Good grief! I had no idea it would be interpreted otherwise. I'm sure the person who first commented knew good and well what I meant--he put the smiley face after his comment.

J, in your former profession most of the participants were not gutter dwellers!! Here on the Hog, the higher echelon is in the gutter, the rest have already been washed into the sewers below!!!
Not your bad....., you'll get used to it, I have !!!

Be aware that some moisture may have gotten into the electronics. It may not have been enough to kill the camera immediately but, over time corrosion can build up between connections and kill the camera. I work for Batteries Plus. We see phones that got wet 6-8 months ago but worked okay after drying them out in rice all of a sudden they won't turn on anymore. Hope yours is the exception.
Thanks for the heads up. I am continuing to research other cameras--just in case.
The SX50 should not take photos as well as they do (Sensor copy of one from Roswell Space Ship) .... now they survive that which any respectable DSLR would have succumbed to!!! SX50 are supernatural... a Twilight Zone creation.... Mentioned in the X-Files.... and Nostradamus in quatrain 817-sub chapter B predicted them.... Long live the SX50
Really glad that one's cleared up. Seriously though, would there be ANY action one could take to try to rescue a DSLR under similar circumstances?
