Why do proponents of stricter gun control, think that Laws will stop law breakers from following those laws? Law breakers (criminals) do not pay attention to laws. I know that this is a rhetorical (Sort of) question. But why do politicians and others believe that laws stop law breakers? Yeah I know that we need laws. But laws prevent law abiders from committing crimes. And without those laws there would be anarchy. I know all that. but the question remains.

IMHO, stricter gun control means keeping guns from "crazy" people.

For the sake of argument, let's not, yet, get into what "crazy" people actually means and use it in the sense of people with a certifiable mental medical condition.

If we can keep these people from using guns for mass killings, I think we've done a good thing.

Yes, I know, this doesn't stop "sane" criminals.

It's not meant to be the end all be all solution.

What is it worth to us to save even 1 person from a gun related death?

For me personally it is worth more than you could imagine.

But I don't have particular affection for gun related deaths. Reducing gun related deaths would lead to deaths by other means. Perhaps many more deaths as terrorists switch to bombs as are more prevelant in other countries.

Suicides are about equally divided amongst guns, drugs, and asphixiation. If those that used guns didn't have them they might just move to another means. Perhaps more painful. And most of those who use guns would be qualified to have them under the most stringent regulations.

Hidden by all the noise around the "need for new gun laws" is the apparent fact that the almost all of our recent mass shooting incidents were conducted by people who were mentally deranged (I choose to term Islamic Radicalism as a mental derangement by our society's norms.)

As a percentage of the total gun-related deaths (suicide being No.1), mass shootings are relatively small.

The whole argument is over what contributes to the greater good for society: allowing law-abiding citizens to own and use arms for positive purposes vs. keeping weapons out of the hands of a relatively small number of deranged people?

Can anyone give me a reliable statistic of the percentage of gun-related deaths that are NOT police performing their duties, suicide, gang-related, or accidental?

Why do we pay for our "lawmakers" to perpetually create new laws when many of the old are not enforced? Why? Because it gives some a warm feeling like they're doing something. Kind of like peeing your pants in cold weather to get a warm feeling, but eventually some find out they had the wrong approach...

Lawyers make laws. They leave loopholes in the laws. When someone breaks a law, they can hire a lawyer to point out what those loopholes are. It's called "jobs for the boys".

There are many statistics on the Internet. Those on deaths are pretty reliable because all deaths must be reported. This is a pretty good overview with referenced sources:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States

You'll note that 60% of all gun deaths are suicides, accounting for over 20,000 deaths per year. All the political hoo-ha happens after mass killings by deranged criminals. As a pure fact the numbers killed that way pale in comparison to suicides. Has your local liberal gone on strike to do anything about suicides? Does anyone think more gun control will have an effect on suicide rates? If so I'd love to see the supporting research.

So the anti-gun crowd don't even het the right problem, much less pose a useful solution.

I had better not hear too much more or I will ship my congressman to your state. I won't bore you with details, but trust me,you wouldn't like it. Check out Connecticut and it cast of clowns. We even have a judge paving the way for lawsuits against a gun manufacturer for the gun used in the Sandy Hook shootings. Okay, I'll go back to sleep now.....

I was delighted to leave Connecticut 47 years ago. Never looked back except when someone wanted a copy of my UCONN diploma.

LOL! Yes,we lead the idiots here in gun legislation and are striving to be a leader in taxation.

My youngest son graduated UCONN in 2002,about a 30 minute drive from Plainfield.

I got a Masters in ME...mostly at West Hartford but travelled to Storrs for a few classes. I never got into the campus but it looked very nice.

So today the news is all over two cases of police killing black criminals. On a day that dozens of whites were killed by blacks.

There certainly are cases of criminal police also. But to attack all police over the few criminals is as bad as persecuting all US citizens who own guns (hundreds of millions) over the criminal acts of a few. Today's media totally distorts reality in a way that the human brain respons. Christ, we got the president commenting from Poland on these cases. Stooooooppppppiiidddd!

I don't have the answers, but there has been a general decay in this country for years. Couple that with individual rights, rampant migration, questionable politicians and lack of concern and here we are. Really bored, sue somebody. Disgusting.

Other than that, retirement is great and we are enjoying ourselves!

An isolationist at heart, but that doesn't work.
