The art forms of nature

Little did this Blue-footed Booby know his form was mimicking the sleeping sea lion behind him -- or maybe he did. In any case, I couldn't have posed him better. Just my good fortune to be in the right place at the right time.

I'm a bit confused by your statement as the sea lion looks like it has thrown it head back and making a call....I do see it's eye closed but do they sleep like that, I've no clue. At any rate a wonderful capture and I think some skill was involved more than luck. I guess that's motion blur but from the bird, but with that fast a shutter would have thought you had it.

No, the sea lion is stretching it's neck muscles. They do that to relieve stress from deep dives. It's a classic sea lion pose and they often stay in that position for some time.

Nice. The eye of the bird is sharp and he seems to be looking backward over his shoulder so we can see his face. Sea Lion is a bonus and a good one. Thanks for posting.

What a cool photo! A new bird for me (love those blue feet!), and a very appealing pose. I'm on the fence about the sea lion; it's fun and gives context, but I guess I'd also enjoy a photo of the bird without since I haven't seen others, that I recall.

The Booby is wonderfully sharp and his pose is great to show off his blue boots. At first glance the oof sea lion seemed like a shadow of the bird. Cool and unique shot. I also like the stretching sea lion.

Great shots---I don't think you found these animals anywhere near where you live--did you?

I think I have equal odds of seeing those in central Illinois as I have of getting a good rain. But luckily they take credit cards for trips to the Galapagos.

And if you don't like the blue boots, they also come in red, Ma'am.

Their name comes from the Spanish term bubi which means stupid fellow. And when they look straight at you, they certainly appear clownish.

Thanks for both, Greg, but this head-on view is just too precious!!

Very nice shot except for the distracting sea lion in back. How about removing it?

I have dozens of Blue-footed Boobies from our trip - but I wasn't looking for a bird ID pic here.
