Have to thank those UHH who replied to my inquiry about the Yongnuo Speedlite. Lots of info. I, also, liked the remarks about, "fix income." Should have mentioned that I'm retired( I was tired yesterday. I'm tired again today!). A octogenarian who left the work force 6 years ago. So between S.S. and a little pension, it's "Fixed Income."

Is that correct? If you have details it would be good to know....

Here is a reply from Yongnuo.

Dear User,

Thanks for contacting us!
We are sorry to tell you that YN600EX-RT doesn't support optical wireless function as master, it can only be used as a slave flash when using optical wireless function.
Thank you very much for your great support for YONGNUO products! If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Best regards,

YONGNUO

Thank you, but the distinction seems to be radio vs optical, rather than master ability. Is that correct?

I use two 568EX units and use my on camera flash (Nikon d7200) as a command flash that triggers the Yongnuo's. Good for indoor work. Outside when I need remote I use the 622-TX/RX set which gives me radio signal capability. Still overall very inexpensive and very capable. There is quite a bit of information that you can glean off YouTube about Yongnuo setups.

The vest on the market is Phottix by Odin. They are currently running a deal for transmitter and a receiver. Have used mine (5) for six years. Not cheap but reasonable.

I bought the YN600ext-rt for camera attached use, in place of the built-in flash, as a master; for my Canon 430 EXII as a slave. I believe that this uses optical link, which was addressed in the response I quoted.

To answer your question: Yes, I am referring only to the optical link. I can't speak to the radio link, but this is from a response earlier in this thread.

I don't know if Yongnuo can work wirelessly in exactly the same way. Likely they can do much the same via the optical triggering and communication... but not the radio triggering (which is probably proprietary to Canon).

I think the problem is that your 430EX II uses optical communication as do the 580 EX and 580 EXII. The YN600EX-RT uses radio (not optical in a master function) which the 430EX can't receive natively. The Yongnuo YN-568EX would be the optical equivalent that would work as an on camera master if you can get one, they seem be still available. Alternatively you could get a radio trigger for your 430EXII, http://www.amazon.com/YONGNUO-Wireless-Receiver-Function-YN600EX-RT/dp/B01A6WIJ9U/ref=sr_1_8?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1467045856&sr=1-8&keywords=Yongnuo+rt+trigger

Not sure what the Canon 600 can do in that context.

The Canon 600 can be the master in either radio or optical mode. I have used it as the master for canon 430's which are optical only and it was designed to use rt and it can be the master n rt as well

Thank you. That is the Canon 600, not the Yongnuo 600 isn't it? That is the issue here isn't it?

That's correct but I thought you were saying you weren't sure what the canon could do so. Was replying to that. Actually I am surprised the yongnuo can't do that as I thought they were pretty much carbon copies of the Canons

Thank you. I don't know what the Canon 600 can do, nor the Yongnuo from personal experience. Just some of the Canon 5xx family.

I guess the devil is in the details...
