Any thoughts on Camera prices (Nikon canon) if Britain leaves the EU ? Right now we must pay the highest prices anywhere in Europe or the US.

If Britain leaves, I might suggest economic turmoil, such that camera acquisition could be interesting.

I buy my most expensive gear on the continent (amazon.fr, amazon.de, foto-koch, foto ehrard etc). I also use the brand's official repair shops on the continent. So far, due to EU regulations the warranty had to be functional across the EU. This may change with brexit as far as the UK is concerned. Prices in the UK won't certainly go down after brexit. The current high prices are a consequence of the exchange rate (pound high, euro low) and the UK importers don't return the exchange rate advantage to the consumer.

An excellent price comparator for tech gear (and other) is www.geizhals.at. If you click on the EU flag, you will get comparative pricing across EU.

Due to uncertainty, the pound is likely to fall in the short term. Long term prognostication is not something we can determine with any degree of certainty because of collateral damage to the EU resulting from Brexit.

BTW, the EU has been attempting to define the terms of a Trade Agreement with Japan since 2011 and it still looks pretty far away. That means that import tariffs are likely to remain the same after a possible Brexit.

It's the ONLY thing we can determine with any degree of certainty - it's all politicians are good for anywhere!

In that case. I would be surprised if the prices go higher.

Now, don't be so hard on politicians! Why right here in New York State we have the finest politicians that money can buy!

I doubt prices will change right away. I believe Brexit will eventually depress the UK economy, causing prices to rise generally. The pound will lose value and camera prices will go up, but the amount is obviously not known.

No sure that we do pay the highest prices currently. US is generally cheaper but that is because it's a huge market and manufacturers want to sell into huge markets. Prices in Italy, Germany and France appear generally higher but if you buy from a reputable source you can take advantage of any lower offers and still get a EU wide warranty. we'll lose all that on Brexit! you can see the daily fluctuations in exchange rates based on the current pole results. IMHO self inflicted chaos will ensue at least in the short term!!!

I used to live in NY. If other states want to know how a certain tax works they only have to ask Albany because they invented them all.

The pols here must have learned well then because my little town of Denham Springs LA now pays the highest sales tax in the country @ 10.5%, beating out Chicago.

I thought California had the highest taxes on everything. 10.5% sales tax in Denham Springs, LA. That's way too much.
