Anyone still using Magic Lantern? I see a lot of older posts but no recent ones.

Any one Bricked their camera playing with Magic Lantern?

They have a feature DUAL ISO that looks worth having access to. I am thinking of trying it on my 60D.

I have magic lantern on a T3i and a T2i. No problems with it at all.

I've not seen any reports of bricking a camera on UHH.

Some people are leary of trying it, and I recall one or two having trouble installing it but that seemed to be a lack of computer skills more than ML itself.

Good luck

I installed ML on a new 60D that I bought 3 years ago. I was very leary about damaging the camera so I researched it for a dozen hours.
I wanted more than the 3 exposures of bracketing that Canon gives you for HDR stills. As a video guy, I love having visible audio meters during shooting, and the ability to adjust dual mics independently. HDR video could save the day if you are willing to spend the time post processing.
It has dozens of useful features for the price of a donation if you like it. I just reinstalled it this week on 2 faster SD cards. I have been amazed at the features. Do your homework to follow the install sequence to avoid frustration. I use 10% of its capability.

This will tell you: http://www.magiclantern.fm/ Magic Lantern is run time software that adds additional capabilities above and beyond the standard firmware for certain Canon cameras.

Bricking is a term used in reference to electronics when something causes them stop working properly, typically having all the responsiveness and usefulness of a brick. It's equivalent to a computing hanging or crashing except that it is not just as simple as turning off and on again to recover the device to a useful state.

I just loaded the latest nightly builds on the T3i / T2i yesterday. No issues. It seems at least as stable as a Microsoft Windows or Apple iOS version!

Been using it for years on all 3 cameras. Never bricked any but on rare occasions ML did weird things and after turning the camera off and on everything was fine. So many fun tools to play with providing you understand when and where to use each tool or combination. I just finished using the focus stacking tool in combination with macro tubes, http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-393180-1.html if you're interested.

A lot of the time I am using AETTR with Dual ISO and am very happy with the results however, one needs to understand when to use the Dual ISO feature. It can be easily misused like so many HDR results shown on UHH. Use the feature when the dynamic range goes beyond what the camera can handle in one exposure.

The information on ML can be hard to understand because each build might do the same thing just a little differently. Case in point, with my version, focus stacking does not make you pick a start and end focus point as per all the videos. I have to choose a start point and tell ML how many steps in front of and/or behind the start point to set. I normally set my start point at the closest point and then tell ML to set 2 steps in front of (just in case my eyes are tired) and then X amount of steps behind (trial and error here but after a few you get pretty good at estimating )

Like so many others I was afraid to try it and sat on the fence for 2 years before pulling the trigger. Once I had and completed the learning phase, (each tool needs time to understand and use properly, some short and some longer) there was no going back. Unfortunately, my wireless inter-valometer has now been reduced to a simple wireless shutter release but I'm not complaining.

I've heard too many bad stories about ML to even try it... things like the camera not booting up and refusing to take photos.

I've heard that the Zombie apocalypse is coming too.

Seriously Jimmy, I know you don't want to use this stuff, but you are afraid of your own shadow in this context. You haven't tried it, and yet you are spreading unsupported fear and doubt without any foundation for your position. I also hear that dancing will rot your immortal soul and lead to eternal fire and damnation, and that if you shoot anything else than Nikon you are un-American and a communist, or worse a Mexican or a Muslim!

Sorry to be a little blunt, but you are playing Chicken Little and crying wolf here. I don't recommend saying "Boo!" to a goose. They tend to fight back, especially when they have goslings to defend.

.

"Don't say 'Boo!' to a goose with goslings...."
"Don't say 'Boo!' to a goose with goslings...."...

I thought I was the only one taking pictures of baby geese. I've been on the fence about ML also, but am so tempted by the built in intervalometer that I might have to jump in. My 6d is out of warranty anyways...

I only threw in the snapshot from a walk with a friend for humorous purposes, but what the hey!

ML doesn't change the firmware, and Canon has not expressly said that it voids warranty from what I have heard. It's really no different to loading an application on your computer or smartphone...

Bricking a camera is anything you do to your camera that may completely render your camera absolutely useless. Or, turning it into a brick, or doorstop, or boat anchor.
