Yes, I should have done that.

Don't recall saying you were foolish and I don't think my comment was an attack. But this one probably is. It is acceptable to ask any question you want, but the purpose is to get assistance, not make work for others just for the fun of it or because you're just too lazy.
You initially asked the question.
"How would I find out the number of aperture blades my lens has? Canon 18-270mm is what I have.", which implies you had no clue how to find that information on your own. While its certainly not that difficult to search for that info, some people are not very computer literate or are unsure how to effectively word search criteria, so we're only too happy to help out. But then
rmorrison1116 who also suggested that you could have easily answered the question on your own ended with
"But then that would take a lot of the fun out of belonging to this on-line community." and you replied with
"Right. That's exactly why I asked here. I know I could have Googled it.". So in the end your purpose in asking us to do the legwork for your original question was both lazy and arrogant. How do you think the people that responded knew the correct answer? They Googled it, like you could have. You didn't need assistance, according to your own words, you just wanted to make us dance.

Hey I don't have that lens but now I know how many blades it has. This site is about learning but there are some here that have forgotten they once too had to ask questions to learn. Hope you like that lens and you enjoy yourself here.
If you look the lens up on a site that gives specifications, like the manufacturer or B&H specifications are listed which is where the number of blades are listed.
If everyone went out and researched every question they had before posting it to UHH we'd have a very quiet forum
gee I'm almost wiling to bet that the OP googled and asked fellow hoggers and is comparing all the answers....
just sayin'

Told myself not to get into this one, but what the heck. I agree, this site is about learning, but I have always contended that learning goes beyond the answer to a question. Learning also includes how to arrive at the correct answer to a question. From what the op said in his post, I too thought that he didn't know how to go about getting the answer to his question and my first thought was he must not know that he can google it or go to the manufacturers web site for the answer. So, IMHO, it was not inappropriate to tell him how he could have gotten the answer to his question himself.

Specs at Tamron website said that it has 7 blades.
A star burst picture would show 7 points yes? or did I read somewhere wrong?

I did Google it after a few people said that I should (I was going to do it anyway). And it also said that if there are an even number of blades, the starburst has that #. But if there were an odd # of blades, the starburst would be double.
Thank you, everybody.
Ok.....did this.........now.....is there.....uh like another video dude?

Thanks for the post cyan.
I had no idea about the double starburst.
If you would have looked it up yourself, i may never had learned this.
I don't ask a lot of questions here, due the unwanted attacks that alway seem to come up.
