I have been waiting for Lily for a long time. It was supposed to be out quite some time ago. The funding was in place, but not produced yet. I'll get one just for the fun of it.

I first saw it mentioned over a year ago. It's now available but in the $900 range.

Subject: Camera - Incredible!

A long time ago here on UHH people were arguing about the despised green button. I remarked that full automatic should be a button once pressed lets you throw the camera into the air and it takes multiple shots on the way down. It seems like a prophesy now.

If you have seen this ignore it. I did not as I never seem to see all there is to see. This will interest you ….. it’s a bit like a drone, but in a slightly different way. What an amazing invention and not too expensive. I am sure everyone will be getting one soon …

America's new toy!! This is something you haven't seen before. Short video!!

Throw and Shoot Camera.

20 minutes of overhead tracking photography. Just throw it into the air
They are selling at $699.00. Amazing what there is on the horizon.

Golfers, can just throw this camera into the air before you tee-off, and
it will record ALL of your great shots.

This technology is bordering on science fiction. It will revolutionize
the movie and TV industry and with this equipment, home videos will be
more fun to watch.

Lily is the world's first throw-and-shoot camera. It lets anyone create
cinematic footage previously reserved for professional filmmakers.
Lily is waterproof, ultra-portable, and shoots stunning HD pictures and
videos.

It's just a drone with the "Follow Me" feature on all the time. No big deal. I'd prefer a real drone so I could set the "Follow Me" on sometimes or turn it off for other uses personally.

I have that feature on my P3A but have never tried it. I'm normally flying in areas where I just couldn't use it. I had sent a few messages to Admin one time about starting a forum dedicated to drone photography and video here on UHH but I'm not sure if there's enough interest. What do you think.

Actually I would like one for skiing or boating but I'm drone poor right now. I'm just trying to keep my Phantom in the air for now. I can't afford many more repairs.

Having flown "drones" for just over a year I'll say the Lily looks interesting but not as my main aircraft. From the video it seems to be just a "follow me" aircraft. Great for some applications but limited. I'm on my second DJI Phantom after losing my first one. It apparently went down in a lake. Maybe the Lily has more ability than I'm seeing but with my current drone (Phantom P3A) I can get out about a mile and half. I'm thinking about doing modifications to give me a longer range but a mile is pretty good. The biggest limitation with drones right now is flying time. I get about 25 minutes max. I have my software set to kick in the RTH (return to home) feature when the battery reaches 20%. It'll automatically come home based on the GPS coordinates of where I took off. My RTH altitude is set to 250 ft. to avoid trees, power lines, etc. As with any hobby there are idiots who fly near airports or crash on the lawn of White House. People like that give the hobby a black eye. Shooting stills and video from above gives an entirely new perspective to photography. Here's a sample taken at about 100 ft. over the middle of a river.

That's onedam cool photo.
I was under th assumption that, according to the new fricken laws governing the use of drones, that you could not fly them out of view. Maybe you can enlighten me about the "out of view" fiasco.
Thanks,
Marion

There will be many applications but as you say still limited due to the "follow" function. One would be cross bicycle races to monitor just what happened when and ski jumping.
To most more interesting than practical.

One practical use, for me anywho, would be to have it record me riding my trials bike. Then I could watch all my f#@& ups and learn how to do it right the second, or third, time.

It seems like the FAA is overwhelmed with how to regulate "drones" Everybody I know flies out of view. You have constant feedback to your monitor. I use an LG 8.3 tablet and even if I lose the video feed I can still see my position overlaid on a map. The FAA has limits on altitude of 400 ft. but I've occasionally strayed to about 500 ft. There are also no fly zones around some government buildings and airports. Common sense will guide you but common sense is no longer common it would seem. It's not a good idea to fly over crowds such as sporting events unless you clear that in advance. Even then a lot of caution is needed. As they say shit happens and you don't want to go down in a crowd of people. Those props can hurt and the aircraft could cause serious injuries. All in all I consider it a safe and fun hobby.

I agree 100%. It's the idiots in Washington that know everything there is to know about everything that causes all the problems.
And the few that do stupid things with drones that make everybody look bad.
Just like ultra-lite airplanes. When they first came out, no license was needed. I told Dad and he said "just give it a few years and the Gov. will have more rules than you have time to read."

I don't see anything of Trial bikes anymore. My brother actually found a Honda TL125 in a creek years ago and restored it. It was a lot of fun to play around on but I was into motocross and hare scrambles back then.

The sport of Trials has been growing lately. I wanted a TL125 so bad, in the 70's that I could taste it. A friend rode one at the park and it looked like so much fun. Then a coworker of my Mom's had an Ossa Plonker.
I was hooked.
I'm trying to get my old air cooled Aprilia running so I can get some badly needed exercise.
Having a Lily to evaluate my riding errors (one right after another) would go a long way in relearning the sport.
I think I'll remain in the waiting mode for a purchase. Last year, $900.00, This year $700.00. Next year, used for 300 on E-bay. With lots of extra batteries, spare props.....
Call me cheap,
Marion
