If you still do some 35MM film camera shooting, what films do you use, like, dislike and why?

Now that I have a scanner, I'm starting to use my old film cameras again. Unfortunately, some of my old favorites are now gone...Kodachrome, Fuji Reala and Panatomic X. I'm in the process of trying a lot of what's still out there, but I would also like to find out what some of you use, if you still dabble in this old school stuff. I'm also interested in what developers you like to use with certain films and why. Any and all responses welcome.

For color print (negative) film, I like Fuji NPS professional 160. For color reversal film, I prefer Fujia Velvia and occasionally Provia. Arista E-6 chemical kits are still available from B&H unless you can locate some new old stock Kodak kits. For B&W, I still like TriX and occasionally Ilford HP5. I usually develop in classic D-76, but have used Microdol (when I can sacrifice speed for grain) and Rodinal. Some of my friends like chromogenic films like Ilford XP-2 for B&W because they can easily get them developed commercially (C-41 process). There are several dedicated film shooters on the forum who can provide additional and perhaps more up-to date advice, as I now shoot and develop film only occasionally as I try to master digital technology.

For color negative, I often prefer Fujicolor 100 because I love how this film gives the blue and green tones extra vibrancy. Especially good in mid to late summer when foliage begins to look dried up and lifeless. But to capture the Autumn colors, I usually choose Kodak Ektar for the way it renders the warmer tones and makes them pop.

For b&w, Neopan Acros 100 is perhaps my favorite as I find it not only easy to develop, but the mid-tones come out well represented, yet without taking away from overall contrast. However, I don't hesitate to use other b&w films if on sale!

I haven't shot slide film in a very long time, so no opinion there.

I have plenty of refrigerated Fuji slide film in 35mm and 120/220 sizes, along with some 5 x 4 sheet film. A part used E6 Kit ,and an unopened kit. B&W FP4 in all sizes, and some big rolls of 70mm. Kodak Aero film for use on the motorised 'Blad. For processing I use D76..Microdol X ..and have one pack of Promicrol left, all in powder form, so hopefully will not have deteriorated. Colour print film and XP2, I could get processed at mini labs, if the stocks of C41 run out. I have unfortunately slid down the slippery Digital Path.

I've really enjoyed shooting with B&W (TRI-X, T-MAX and NEOPAN) and color (PORTRA 160 and EKTAR 100). KEH sells film as does B&H, Adorama and Amazon.

If you search film on the search field at the top of the page, you'll find some discussions and recommendations in the 2014 time frame.

Someone did some research on processing. There was a discussion this week about a drugstore returning micro sized scans and no negatives. Pretty much a waste of your entire film effort... So, find a real developers. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-149625-1.html

i don't do much anymore, but occasionally I take my Olympus OM-1 out for a walk. I like Ilford HP-5 because I like the grain. If I can't get HP-5 I'll use Kodak Tri-X.
