Taken in 1946, these empty beer barrels were stacked outside a famous Bavarian monastery which has its own brewery. That may seem a bit peculiar to Americans, but that Andechs brewery enables the monks to fund all their own functions without recourse to the government's Church Tax funding. (All Germans who belong to a religion must pay a Church Tax, which is then distributed to whichever denomination they list as their belief. To avoid the tax, you must declare yourself an atheist). The "Kl" is the abbreviation of "Kloster", the German for Monastery.
