Have Canon 80D. Looking for lens to do close up work on say flowers. Canon lenses only at this time. 80D rejected Tamron 16-300 and 18-270. Thank you for you help, I love this site.

kodiac, Look at the Canon 100mm Macro lens. Great reviews and a very fine lens. I own the non-L version and I have no complaints. About $480 refurbished from Canon. Gary

What do you mean it 'rejected' those Tamron lenses? I have the 18-270 on my 70D without any problems.

BTW, the 100mm Macro is a great lens for what you are looking for.

Yes it worked on my 70D as well. Camera shop said Canon changed something in 80D so neither Tamron lens worked in it. Camera shop manager said he was going to notify Tamron of the problem.
Put Canon 70-300 on 80D and works great.
Working on finding a refurbished Canon 100mm right now!
What are the associated problems when you buy a lens "from Japan"? Has to go through customs?

Are you in the US when hiding? Why would you purchase and import a lens from Japan when thousands are for sale here in the US already?

The listed price is less from Japan but I don't know if the shipping cost offsets the savings. Some say free shipping.

I have the 60mm Canon which I use on my 7DII. It has the same FoV as the 100mm would on a FF camera.

I've seen a refurbished Canon 100mm 2.8L as inexpensive as $611.00 on Canon's site when they had a 15% off sale. That was within the last year.

I would recommend the L version simply for the image stabilization making hand held shot very forgiving at that focal range. The beauty of the macro lens is true 1:1 including closeup.

Why don't you call B&H Photo in NY they can direct you to many lenses .
A 100 MM 2.8n IS Micro lens is 800 pus down to around $500 for a non Is lens .
This it this way buy a better lens in the first place but forget the camera the seem to upgrade cameras every 6 months but almost upgrade lenses every 4 to 5 years

You won't have a US warranty, so if the lens should happen to fail you either have to pay for repairs or send it overseas. BTW, all Canon lenses are made overseas. Japan, China, etc.

I also own the non-L version of the 100mm macro lens. It is a fine, sharp lens that compares well to the much more costly L lens. I compared it to the Tamron version and decided I liked it much better.

I've bought two older lenses from eBay sellers in Japan. Just like buying from US seller - no customs, no duty, the lens is delivered by USPS. But for common items, I'd stick with US sellers. The prices will be about the same.

Hi Kodiac,
I prefer the Canon 300mm f4 L IS for closeup work with flowers, insects, etc. The lens has image stabilization and you can get a used one at a good price...($800 or less). I have the Canon 100mm L 2.8 macro lens but seldom use it anymore. Although the 300mm is not a true macro lens, the lens will focus around 6 feet to yield closeup shots. Before you buy, you might try renting both lenses to see which you prefer. If you decide you like the 100mm macro, let me know and I will part with mine. I am attaching a couple of photos of flowers that were shot with the 300mm.
