I get frustrated with LR for its slow performance & crashing ... But my hard drive is almost always around 90% full. Im constantly moving large chunks of data to my external storage drives. I noticed an extreme improvement in LR when my hard drive was @75% full. My answer is to add a solid state drive in the laptop, keeping software & my current projects on the Solid State and recent work in the laptop orig drive

I have 1 TB free so that was not the problem with mine it was the Graphics Processor that caused my problems.
And yes I too use an external HD for storage.

Thanks Craig ..... I might look into the Graphics Processor ... Haha .... I'd hate to spend for the solid state when that isn't the problem!!

I would also be suspect if the drive is over 75% full they tend to crash with more than that.
But I do have both laptop & desktop computers off of the graphics processor now and they work great.
Lightroom/Edit/Preferences/Performance.

When drives get too full they can create a lot of problems. Especially if you don't defrag them on a regular basis. at 90% full you could have a total failure of a unit so be carful and just buy a bigger drive.

With the new Update Lightroom Freezes Up all the time.
I have tried an Uninstall and Reinstalled with same results.
Anyone else have the same problem and how to resolve it???
Also did the Restart after reinstall.

Not sure what operating system you're using; however, I had the same problem with the latest version of Lightroom on Win 10. It works perfectly on Win 7.

I backed off to the 2nd last version of Lightroom on Win 10 and the problem seems to have gone away.

I notified Adobe of the problem. We'll see if a future release resolves the issue?

BWA try turning off the Graphics Processor in Lightroom/Edit/Preferences/Performance.
It worked for me because I had the same problem in Win 10 too.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
I had the freeze-up problem on LR6 ever since I downloaded it! Running Windows 7 on a Lenovo notebook. The problem occurred when switching from Develop back to Library in LR6 - got the "not responding" kiss of death and then had to dump LR and start over. This has drove me nuts for ~ 6 months to the point I didn't use LR6 but went back to LR5. Disabled the graphics processor in Preferences, rebooted, and problem solved!!!
