Were these two eggs not fertile, Robert? Thanks for looking.

That would be my guess, maybe they got chilled or something.
My grand mother raised chickens and every so often not all the eggs would hatch.
Mostly she bought Leghorn chicks (about 100-200 each spring) from a hatchery but some of her chickens were allowed to hatch their eggs. Banty's and Rhode Island Reds were the ones she and Granddad kept for looks (and for me, first grandchild) and allowed to brood their eggs. The Leghorns out numbered them 10 or more to 1 and were the ones that became fried chicken and we gathered their eggs for use or sale to the market in town.

I know it's all about nature, Robert, but I can't get over feeling sad. I was soooo anxious to see those little ones.

Check all the area ponds and other water, close enough the parents could lead the little ones to walk there.

I went over to give the geese some water and cracked corn, and this is what I found! Of the six eggs she laid, only these two are left and there are no signs of mom, dad, or babies. These two eggs were covered with grass. They were there last night around 9PM. We saw them when we stopped at the Acme for a few things. My heart is broken! Last year they stayed a couple days after they hatched, but there aren't even cracked egg shells around. The duck is gone, too, but there are broken egg shells in her former nest. So sad! :(

So sad Sue
