Great shots David. Since they moved over to your place we expect to see more of them in the future!
I don't disturb the wood piles in the yard as it takes a long time to generate a good habitat beneath a log. I might see them at some point cruising the yard, but there is plenty of cover for them.

The subjects were fun ones today.
Very nice shots, I like them both.
Not a lover of snakes but these are quite good.

Very nice series.
I really like the last two!
Wonderful find. Everyone should have a woodpile for all sorts of critters.
I'm with you - I find them fascinating. Thanks for posting these!
Great photos. Have them in my back yard--fell into a ditch dug to brace retaining wall (not trapped, easy out). Was brought several when I worked at a museum in Oakland, kept for a while. Interesting when they feed. A slug will sense them, and you never saw such an unsluggish slug! The snake follows the slime trail using its tongue, and slips up on the slug from behind, tilts its head sideways, and walks its teeth up the slug until consumed. Has very long back teeth to penetrate the really thick, gummy defensive slime produced by the slug. Sometimes the slug can crawl partway back out, but will get re-eaten until it gets swallowed all the way down. Unfortunately, never managed reasonable photos of feeding.
