Meet Emmy. I just had a photo shoot Sunday evening and shot 144 images . . . this is one of three genres/backlights. She is a great model and knows her profession well. The background matches close to her eye liner color and my goal was to get her eyes sharp and her skin softer.
Used 5 ProFoto lights and taken with my Nikon D800, ISO 100, f/5, 85mm f/1.8 lens, 1/250 sec., custom white balance entered into the camera, Matrix metering, and Full Manual.
There were two gelled lights (purplish) on the background and one red gel light camera left. Used a Beauty dish about straight into her face with a grid and a sock. There was also a softbox camera right with a grid just feathering her on the right side.
This really didn't need much Post Processing, but what was done was in ACR & Photoshop, only. No canned portrait programs and did all selective processing - not global, using masks.
Best Regards,
Tom

Walt - Thank you very much. She was a pleasure to work with and really seemed to know her modeling poses. She is also a makeup artist and did a pretty good job with that as well.

Nice shot. :-)
Hey Bill,
Thanks a lot. She was really a pleasure to shoot and extremely cooperative as well as great with her makeup and apparel changes. This shoot concentrated on framing her from waist up and also some close in head shots. What a blast this was!
It is so much better to shoot a model or subject who knows what they are doing and is familiar with lights, poses, proper lines of her body for a picture, placement of hands and fingers, and proper space between arms and body.
I hope to upload some more shots in the near future. I have one shot of her where I forgot to reset my ISO after taking a set-up picture that was essentially in the dark. For fun, I kept it and tried to make it into a Super High Key image. I may post that one, but if I do, I'll probably upload it into the FYC (For Your Consideration) Forum here on UHH. Cheers!
Best Regards,
Tom
Tom, This is really nice, but it is not a High Key image. Too many shadows on her and the background is too dark.
This has nothing to do with your image - just the title.

Cliff,
Thanks. Yes, I know it really isn't High Key, but that is what someone else said it was. I have shot real High Key and there it was very bright with essentially no shadows whatsoever. In that case, I used a Beauty dish as well, but the light and the camera settings did not allow for shadows and there was fill light and 2 lights on the white background which also made the room just fill with light all around. The model wasn't washed out, but it was truly High Key. I'd post that shot here, but pretty sure I'm not allowed to do that in the People Photography forum. Thanks for your comments . . . as usual, I love what you say, and, your expertise and all the help you have given me over the years. Cheers my friend.

Tom, I think you did a great job of shooting a beautiful model. There are no hot spots to speak of, and her pose is excellent.

Thank you, Rich. Yes, she is a great model and poses very well. In case you didn't get this in your Digest this morning (I actually did not, but had it on my computer since I started the Thread), check out Emmy at this site which I started last night with another picture.
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-381556-1.html#6423831Look it over and see what you think. I still have a lot I can post/upload in new threads. I just don't want people getting tired of seeing Emmy. I just have so many different facial expressions on her.

I'm glad the people I work with don't look like that. I'd forget which end of the camera to look in.
Heck, I think I'd forget what a camera was for.
I'm turning into a dirty old man.
