Greetings,

Another shot of Emmy taken 4/10/2016 - a great model to work with in every way. Nikon D800, ISO 100, Nikon 70-200 mm, 70 mm, 1/250, f/5, Matrix metering, Full Manual, Color Picker White Balance. This had a gelled background.

Bill - Thank you. The gelled backgrounds really aren't difficult as long as you have adequate gels and adequate lights. It also saves on buying special colored backdrop cloths!

For some reason, the two photos I posted last night (separate threads) did not show up on my screens and probably a lot of other people's screens as well. I think that is actually really poor Web Site operations. They are on my one computer since it is the one I actually made the posts. However, on my laptop they are not to be found in the digest or anywhere else I know to look - Hmmmm??!!

Greg,

Yes, I like the pose here as well. For some reason, Emmy thought a sober/serious/lifeless face was better and she would just do that automatically. Honestly, I had to direct her in getting facial expressions that had some life or expression! When I asked her to smile or use a closed mouth smile, she seemed a little resistant, and once she said she felt it was like a smirk. In any case, I love this shot with her smile and the way she curved her body and back.

I tried to get her to Squinch, if you are familiar with Peter Hurley's Squinch he gets actors and models to successfully perform. I may see if I can find that one and post, although she was not 100% successful. Then, I asked her to raise her eyebrows in a partial and curved pose, and I will also try to start a new Topic with that picture as well when time allows.

Thanks Greg for your continued comments.

I like your pose and composition, and even the quality, intensity and ratio of your lighting, . . . but . . . would have preferred to see the key light come from the opposite side creating short lighting and eliminating the harsh shadow of her hair on the lit side of her face.

Just my humble opinion . . . again.

Weddingguy,

I understand and appreciate you bringing that point to my attention.

I have always like using a gel on the background. On white it is a pastel but on black it is amazingly intense color. Use both of these back in the 80's when I was in business. Learned about it in a Dean Collins seminar. Keep up the great work and looking forward to your next post.

MCHUGH,

Thanks for the information about the gels and the white vs. black backgrounds showing pastel vs. intense colors. The gels sure do save money on buying different colored backdrop cloths! I think they are really nifty and quite useful, not only in attaining different colors, but also for setting different moods for various shots and outfits the model may be wearing.

Thank you very much and I plan on posting some more of Emmy in the future.

Best Regards,
Tom
