Bought a Sx50 HS last may. Noticed a smudge on the sensor at the higher Fstops with the lens extended, but since I didn't think I would use it that way often I figured I would clean it up with photoshop.
Since then it shut down twice with the lens extended and could only be restarted by pulling the battery. Plus I found out because of the size of the smudge, it was a pain to fix.

So Friday April 1st I mailed it out to Canon.
Monday they accepted it.
Tuesday Emailed me they didn't have parts so are sending me a new refurb.
Called me today it was shipped fed express I should have tomorrow.
Less than a week since it went through the weekend also.
Pretty good service I think.

Funny they seem to have some available but the web site shows out of stock.

They probably keep some in reserve for similar situations.

Nick is probably right but some popular items come into stock and they can blow 100 units out the door within an hour of an "in stock" posting, and it's right back out of stock!!
Canon CS is legendary. I'm sure they have their problems but they are far and few between! ;-)

I am in complete agreement with SharpShooter. Canon has been terrific when I have had questions or needed help. Can't imagine going with another brand!

I guarantee they will be send you a refurbished SX60 and not an SX50. I was told they DON'T service SX50's, they replace them. I went through this recently. They no longer have refurbished SX50's.

Good luck with that. I begged twice on the phone for an SX50. They haven't had any listed on the refurbished site for almost a month now. They sent me a SX60, I sent it back, called them, they said they'd take care of it and I received another SX60.

Well guess we'll see tomorrow.
I don't really want the SX60

Actually they gave me the serial number of the one they're sending it's similar to the one I had.

As I said I wish you well....I have an SX60 sealed in a box right now and it will stay that way until I sell it.

Their service is actually terrific. I live 20 minutes away from New Jersey regional service center. I brought in my Canon 7D Mark II after 3 PM on a Friday afternoon because I was having a shutter problem. The person at the desk accepting my camera did a quick diagnostic test and identified a faulty circuit board. At 8:30am Monday morning I was called and told my camera was ready. Assuming they didn't work on the weekend, I think less than 1/2 a business day turn around to do a complete diagnostic, clean the sensor, and replace the faulty circuit board is pretty spectacular.

While there is always the potential for service problems and customer dissatisfaction, generally Canon service gets very high marks from most people who use it. Its rare that their turnaround is more than a week, and is often much less.

I'm fortunate in having one of their repair locations just 50 minutes away. I have found them to be friendly, courteous and expeditious.

Perhaps the "no listin" of refurbished on the website has to do with the limited supply on hand. Their first priority would be to satisfy a customer that needs a replacement. When they have an abundance of the model on hand, they offer them for sale. Just my guess.

Yep. we're lucky to be so close. You're 20 minutes or so north/west of me. From Edison it took me around 25 minutes to get to Jamesburg. As I said above, brought my 7D2 in for service Friday afternoon and they called me to come pick it up at the start of the day on Monday. Can't expect better than that!!!

The Canon SX50 is no longer in production. Canon was selling them refurbished for $149 not too long ago. You can still buy them used. A Canon SX60 is not a terrible camera. I saw one and later went to You Tube for a comparison of the two cameras. I really saw no significant differences between the two cameras. The Canon SX60 sells new for $460. And it has a focal length of 1350mm and 16 megapixels vs 12.1 megapixels.
