Mack, Squaretrade or . . .

I just bought my a6300. I usually don't buy these extended warranty products, but I am tempted. Cameta sells the Mack warranty, 3yrs for $59. That sounds reasonable for an (almost) all risk warranty.

I know that Squaretrade has an excellent reputation, but if I buy it on my own, they want $250. I can still get the Mack from Cameta.

Anyone have experience about this?

- - - and why would you not buy the Mack. Sounds like an inside deal from Cameta. Enjoy the 63! What glass are you looking to use.

if you get the squaretrade, MAKE SURE, you keep the original receipt and the squaretrade contract..
I lost out on a lens repair because I could not get the receipt, and paypal only went back a year!!!

Ya live and learn!! :-D

Do you realize that if you purchased with a credit card some card will double the warranty. I had a okay experience with Mack, but i heard someone complaining. Does Sony have an extended warranty?

I've purchased the Mack warranty before. They're not as big as Square Trade, but they are a big player in the business. I can't talk to customer service if you need it though.

I have taken out the Mack warranties for years on all of my cameras. I have spoken with customer service.

I have always found them to be a reputable company. I just dropped off my Sony A77 for a card reader problem.

The last time I had a Konica Minolta 5D. This camera had numerous problems. Four repairs in five years. The last time it died two days before the warranty expired. I called them, and sent it in. They replaced it with a refurbished one. Still working three years later.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I guess I will go ahead and buy the warranty. For sixty bucks, it seems a reasonable option on a $1200 item.

I bought an extended warranty/insurance once. (Don't remember the Guarantor, it was a quarter century ago.) I then fell on the ice carrying my polycarbonate bodied Nikon 8008, I was OK but the polycarbonate body had a crack. I contacted the warranty provider, as I thought this was covered, but they assured me it was only "cosmetic", and, therefor not covered.

Down the road, my son and I are on a once-in-a-lifetime backpacking trip in Olympic National Park, and the ever present moisture penetrated the camera innards, and shut it down! (Fortunately, we had my sons waterproof point and shoot as a backup, so we still got a few pictures.) I sent the camera in to Nikon (on my dime) and they replaced the cracked body. I used that repaired camera extensively until I replaced it with an F100 six or eight years later!

No, I do not favor these third party Warranties, Guarantees, Equipment Insurance Programs, except real theft or loss insurance policies from real Insurance companies. I remember my parents paying for such an appliance insurance program year after year. They had paid enough to have repurchased the appliances when, due to an untenable rate increase (the appliances had reached an age when problems were expected to occur) they dropped the insurance! Of course, one of the appliances failed shortly afterward.

The problem is different with digital cameras! They are pretty reliable, and even if they due fail after say a half dozen years, technology has marched on to the point that an identical replacement can be had for pennies on the dollar.

Buy authorized (non-grey market), maintain reputable theft/loss insurance, and take care of your equipment!

Kool, I bought my 7Dmkll from Cameta just so I could get the insurance. I called talked to Adorama and BH and the Cameta plan covered the most. I called the underwriter specifically to ask that it covered if it was dropped into water. Only the Cameta coverage seemed like it covered that without a question. I shoot in the rain a lot and wanted to make sure on what "spills" meant. It's the first time I've bought a plan as well but knew how I would be using the camera. Call the underwriter if you need to be sure on a specific item of coverage.
Hope this helps!! ;-)
