An interview with pinkycat,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I discovered a love for photography in 2010.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I've had no formal training. Just some online seminars, excellent guidance here on UHH and lots of experimenting.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
For me, the picture has to provoke a reaction immediately. It also must have depth and feel alive.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
For this shot, I used my Canon 60SX. I love this camera. It's outstanding when doing close ups.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I did a fair amount of post work on this. Initially in PSE14 Camera Raw. Then on to Topaz Adjust and Clarity. A few final touches in Smart Photo Editor.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
John Shaw, Ansel Adams and the many outstanding nature photographers here on UHH as well as artists like Georgia O'Keefe.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I really took this on the fly. I was on my way out and grabbed a few shots. I would take more time and experiment a bit more with angles and settings.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I had a better background in composition and color.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
N/A

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
N/A

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
N/A

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I would work with flowers (growing, arranging, etc.)

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Photography is one of the greatest joys of my life. It's my escape, my meditation, a spiritual experience. Unfortunately, I can't think a specific story at the moment.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Not at the moment.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
I'm far from qualified to give any one advice on photography. The only thing I can say is just "shoot what you love" and you'll always get a great shot.

An interview with jaysnave,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
About 5 years of photography using good equipment and knowledgable enough to know what the exposure triangle is. I am not sure what got me started other than some late life transformation where I realized that seeing the world through photography makes it so much better.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training other than some seminars held at the local camera shop by some very good photographers. I love the Creative Live offerings and of course UHH.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
It first needs to have impact that will grab the viewers attention and then be able to tell a story or at least generate thought and emotion from the image.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
It was very simple for this image. We received a snowfall the night before and into the morning and turned the stand of woods behind our house into a magical snow forest. I took my D600 and 24-85 outside and started snapping careful to expose correctly for the bright snow.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
This image just needed some routine adjustments in Lightroom for exposure, contrast, highlights, whites etc... After all it was mostly white.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
The inspiration just appeared that morning.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I regret that I did not go into the woods to look for even more intriguing compositions. I am recovering from back surgery so probably best that I did not.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
Being a good photographer is far more than owning a good camera. I guess all new photographers have to discover that.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Speed Lights. Either on camera bounced or remote.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
70-200 for the weddings and events I do. Great lens.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I will always do photography. I am retired from those other things.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Yes, but better told in person.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Not in a very organized fashion. I am working on it.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Keep shooting and keep having fun.

An interview with Coolcameragirl,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been taking photos since I was a teenager - always had a fascination for photography.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No "formal" training but a 10 year member of a camera club, lots of seminars, and learning from others. I love nature photography and macro photography.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
A good picture has me looking closer and longer, has to have some sort of wow factor.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
Canon 7d, Mark II with a Sigma 150-600 lens, hand held.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I just use Photoshop Elements 13.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I take hundreds of shots when I go out for a couple of hours and if I'm lucky, get 20-30 really good ones.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
No.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
When I started, I didn't use raw, now I wish I had - maybe could have saved some of my earlier shots.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
I guess that would be my hand strap for the camera.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My Canon 70-200

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
Rarely use lighting equipment on nature shots. If I'm shooting macro, I use a ring flash.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I would love to paint, but don't have the talent for it.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Just keep shooting. You can always get better.
