I went to Best Buy today to buy SD Cards and batteries. I went to the camera section and asked if they were going to display the D500 and D5 when it arrives. He told me he didn't know, but some others came in to pee-order both cameras. I checked the D5 specs when I got home. Here they are. 20.8 megapixels, auto movie mode focus, DX/FX lenses capable, optical view finder, 3.2" LCD Touch Screen, dual memory card slots, Wi-Fi built in, GPS adaptable, windows/Mac connectivity, 1/8000 to 30 sec. Shutter Speed, 12 fps, ISO 100-102400 expandable to 3280000, You have a choice of 2 bodies. One XQD memory card or one being the CF card. Not familiar with XQD card. Don't know which card is better. XQD or CF. But one thing is clear. The price. $6500.00.

Mas, wow, that's quite a camera. Now if it had a tad more mp, shot a little faster and cost $500 less, it would almost equal the Canon 1Dxll!!

Mas, you should get one of each and tell us which you like best!!!!!!

Xqd is the modern replacement for CF. But substantially more expensive. I guess if you are willing to pay that for the camera a few hundred extra here and there may not be an issue.

I wish they had put two SD cards in the P500 though. One of them might tempt me a yar or two down the road when refurbs come up.

No. I will not be purchasing the Nikon D5. Just curious about it. I was comparing it to my DSLR which is a DX format camera. My camera uses SD cards.

Scott,

Not sure if the Nikon D5 is using a Sony sensor. Rumor is Nikon is using a Renesa sensor instead. Maybe MT Shooter can verify this rumor.

The Sony Sensor is in the Pentax K-1 full frame. 36 megapixels.

Not sure if true but someone said it has a "Nikon" sensor in both of these cameras

I think "someone" was mistaken. I don't think Nikon makes their own sensors. When Nikon reps were here 3 weeks ago, I asked one of them is Sony making the sensors for the D5/500. Being as evasive as she was most of the evening, she said, "Whoever is making them, they're designed by Nikon and built to Nikon specs." Good enough for me.

SD cards would be too slow for the high burst rate.

I'd probably pee a little too if I were ordering a $6500 camera.

Oops, sorry. Meant D500.

Coincidently have a P500. I didn't think it was worth anything. EBay here I come!

I knoe rhe D500 has an awesome burst rate and buffer. But I got the impression the higher end SD cards, which still cost much less, are up to the task.
