I would have said yes - and when the inquirer asked the obvious next question - "What do you charge?" I would have answered at least $8000 for the basic package. If he didn't walk away after that, then I'd say you have a live one on the line. I hate leaving money on the table. :)

Hey Chap, I think that's happened to many of us 'Hoggers. I'll shoot my daughter's championship basketball game tomorrow and am sure to get asked, especially with the ff rig and 70-200mm lens. I've never shot a wedding and I wouldn't even attempt without assisting on a few, but as Gene51 suggests, it may not be a bad idea to throw out a number just to see the apoplectic look on their face

I was asked to shoot a nudist wedding once. I declined. I was afraid I would stand out too much! :):)

I went to a wedding at a nudist colony once. Nobody knew
who the groom was, but everybody knew
who the best man was.

Next time say yes. When they ask a price, make up something that's twice a regular price.

That way you can hire a regular wedding photographer and just collect the cash!

Good answer. Unless you commit to learning the business and doing high quality work, it is a crazy thing to do. It is a special genre of pro photography that is polluted with lots of amateurs trying to grab a quick buck or help out friends. They make the pros look bad.

I wish more people would say no to such a request. People just assume because you have a camera you're an expert and all the vast areas of photography. We should shoot what would you like and feel comfortable with.

I do not photograph weddings, so I told her the truth. I did not offer to officiate the wedding either.

I have officiated many weddings and most of the time the pro wedding photogs are easy to work with. It those younger friend of the bride photogs that creat issues. If the wedding is inside then I talk with photog about not using on camera flash. One told that if she didn't use flash she could the pictures. I wanted to tell her to learn to use her camera.

Another gripe I have is photogs (usually a freind of the family) using flash at a funeral/memorial service. I am considering employing the no flah rule at indoor funeral/memorial services.

When I shoot events (not weddings nor sports) I do not use flash. I am not anti-flash. I like using flash to shoot flowers in sunlight for example.

I am glad you had fun with this thread.
