Hi, my name is Kenneth. I just become aware of the existence of this forum today and signed up for the news letter and the forum. I am a novice photographer but am also a enthusiast and looking to become a better photographer. As I read information about this hobby and read Owner Reviews for cameras and equipment, I see many 2, 3, 4 letter acronyms for photo related terms that I do not understand the meaning of. Is there a short, or long list of common acronyms on this site or elsewhere that I can refer to, to help me better understand what I am reading?

Thank you Ray, in just the couple minutes I have been on here I have learned that ILC means Interchangable Lens Camera. Now if I can only learn what the other acronyms stand for I will be on my way up.

Another alternative that often works (and may be easier to remember) is to use Google. For example, if you type "TTL Photography" for a google search you will find that TTL means "through the lens" for photographers. Do include the word "photography" in the search though - TTL means something entirely different for other interest groups. For example, in the semiconductor industry it means "transistor-transistor logic".

If you use the "Search" function at the top of the page and type in "Acronyms" you will find a number of discussions on that subject.

Ken, welcome to the Hog. In about a week you will have developed a LHR(lovehaterelationship) here, that means you're normal(N)!
BUT, in all of photography, there is ONLY one acro you need to know, all the others will eventually fall into place. The acro I speak of is G.W.A.C!
DONT be that GUY!!!!!
Again, welcome! ;-)

Does anyone else find it odd that in a post about what acronyms mean, there has been more than one using "UHH"?

Thanks everyone, all the above is good information. Now I must search to discover what G.W.A.C. stands for. SS,I'll try to not be THAT GUY. I am hopeful that I am not, nor will become, That Guy, without even knowing what that is. I have learned the meaning UHH and FAQ.

Hey, SS, what's wrong with the GIRLS WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE, it should provide all sorts of opportunity for a guy like you! Or are you just trying to protect your turf (without telling your wife, of course!)

Great link!

but, while it is very fast to remove the "s" - you could also precede the link with [ url ] and follow it with [ /url ]
(to use, remove spaces I've put between the square brackets).
