My point was that for most photographic purposes, very high pixel count is overkill (for me). There's a tradeoff IMHO and I "need" the high ISO instead of the high pixel count.

All else being the same, there shouldn't be much difference between high and low pixel count in terms of noise in the image. The low pixel count is better at high ISO when you're only considering one pixel. The high pixel count gives you more samples over a given section of the image which can help reduce noise. However, having compared the D4 and the D800e, I find the D4 to do a better job overall. I use the D800e as a backup body.

Of course there are instances where the high pixel count is desirable. I just don't run across those situations very often.

I will have the means to aquire another camera. I am debating between two, (remember I am a Sony shooter) the A6000 or the A7RII.

According to rumors, SONY may release a successor to the A6000 with a higher density chip and image stabilization. I know waiting for upgrades like this is a fool's mission, but CES is just 3 days away, and SONY is bound to have an announcement one way or the other.

Do I really need 42 MP or is 24 MP enough? You never have enough for quality images.

Will I ever use 4K video? If you have it you will use it. GO for it!

The basic differences between my current camera (A77II) and the A6000 is size and mirrorless. Same sensor and MP. This choice would allow me to get flash units, and more lenses. My lens choices would limited to the OSS lenses.

If I move to the FF A7RII, then there are a lot of differences. Making this move would cause to get the system a piece at a time due to finances. I have more lens choices because Steady Shot is in camera.

One more consideration, I am in the process of becoming one of the photographers for a local art center.

May want to wait until February when the rumored successor to the a6000 is supposed to debut. It is said to have stabilization built into the body. Just a thought.

It's never about JUST the megapixels, or the low light performance, or any other one thing. Choosing a camera or platform involves hundreds of implications and compromises and considerations.

I agree there is always something to be gained and lost when selecting a camera.

If I do not decide on the a7Rii, I will wait for the a6100. Yes it is another option.

That would be "deliberations".

I thought he was referring to 'Dilbert-ations' --- some sort of comic strip intrigue! ;-)

As mentioned, pixel count is just one element to consider. I would recommend that you talk to Regis.
