A refurbished SX50 is $149.99.

Currently out of stock. They have some. Explain your dilemma. Canon may release one.

Humm, does the spot change with focal length. Looks like a lens spot because it has no sharp edge.
Definitely! When I had a spot on the sensor of my Pentax MILC, the edges of the spot were absolutely sharp. I was able to take care of that by running its sensor-cleaning function ... but I don't know of any camera that has a little man who pops out to clean the back of a built-in lens.

I have the same type of spot, tho not as large on my Nikon D50. It usually shows up w/ the blue hues.
Rather than send it in, I have been able to use the CLONE STAMP in my Photo Elements 11.....I think its a common 'tool'. certainly worth a try....has worked for me 100%
Good Luck

Well I did send it in only because it was still under warranty. Thank goodness. Hope I get it back soon.

Good news. Canon could not get the spot off my sensor on my SX50. So they sent me a new SX60, no charge What a great company.

They did the same for me but I sent the SX60 back and begged for an SX50. It was very kind of them to give me an updated body but as many have said the IQ on the SX50 is noticeably better. I really hope they come through.

How could Canon possibly have taken a step backwards with the SX-60??

They increased it to 16 megapixel from 12 and extended the zoom from from 1200mm to 1365mm using the same sensor.

Detail isn't nearly as sharp even after PP from a RAW image. I can certainly vouch for that. Look up Lilian Stokes, writer of over 30 bird photography books and see what she says.

Just google and you'll see....it's not just her....plenty of people complain about it. Research is your best friend...
