I have a spot on my SX50 camera I guess it's on the sensor. But since I can't remove the lens how do I clean it?

I suppose you need to send it in.

I presume you cropped massively to show it? Sensor spots are usually small. But then the sensor in this camera might be small...in which case the spot would appear large.

Humm, does the spot change with focal length. Looks like a lens spot because it has no sharp edge.

venture to say that if out of warranty period that you will be better off $-wise buying a new-refurb one.

Shoot a clear blue sky, first wide open then at smallest aperture. If the second shot is sharper the dirt is probably on the sensor. If the dirt is somewhere in the lens system and not on center it might disappear when you stop down.

Yes. Unfortunately, replacement is often less expensive than repair.

Maybe it's time for an SX60.

A number of reviews prefer the SX50 to the SX60 which added GPS and WiFi but took away some SX50 abilities. Not sure what there were but google the vs of the two. Me, I have 2 SX50 referb and the C1, C2 are set up for diff situations. C's are the custom settings that you structure. Add to that M and you have 3 for each camera. What more can a growing boy ask.

I agree.
I think the first step is to contact Canon and see what they can do for you. Maybe they'll sell you a refurb at a reduced price if you send the old camera?

Tita,
Hopefully you've had time to contact Canon about the problem with your SX50. Regardless, here is a link to a store that is selling NEW SX50's for only $209.00, a good deal since all it comes with is a neck strap and a CD. You don't need a battery because you already have one and you no doubt have a case for it too so this would be a good deal for you if buying a new one seems like a good alternative.

I had a similar problem with a Ricoh compact years ago, and more recently with a Samsung compact. The speck could be on the sensor, but in my case it was on the back element of the lens. (It changed noticeably depending on level of zoom.) If the camera is beyond economic repair, try hitting it!

Seriously, switch it off, remove battery and SD card, and hit the base of the camera onto the heel of your other hand as hard as you dare. If that doesn't work, put a leather glove on and hit harder. Worked for me both times, and you've nothing to lose...

You have already tried cleaning the lens, correct?

I had a similar problem a number of years ago with a Canon and the cost of repair was almost the same as a new one. My spot was a "drop" of lubricant that happened because I left the camera in the tray of the back window of a car. I replaced the camera.Expensive learning !!

A link to Daxmart? Wasn't there a question yesterday about them? One of the answers linked to a site that listed many complaints with them.
