thank you - good to know! All mine are with butterflies -- blue/green butterflies with patterns imprinted.
Will keep my eye open for the clean stuff! Dag gone the wives with all their pretty things anyway.

You've got image quality nailed in spades but that color would drive me nuts.

I'm not sure if it holds true for your application or not but, plain paper towels (1 or 2 layers) have given me the best diffusion without killing the light much.
I'm planning on using this on one of my lights. I only have one softbox (other is in the mail...), and now that I can fire both flashes I suspect one from each side will give better results than a single one bounced off the ceiling.
Also, since my 'studio' is the front of my desk, and I am literally between my PC and monitor, I have been thinking about trying to shoot tethered at some point. I just don't want to complicate my learning too much in one go is all!

nice one -- thanks for the feedback. I'm sure all the color is there, I just have to be smart enough to get the reddish cast out and bring back blue (if that is what is going on). Post should do it, I just don't recognize the proper colors yet!!

Hi neighbor Bloke - Nothing but trouble for the desktop shooter I am telling you. Space is always an issue. I ended up putting two desks back to back with the computer between them. Monitor one desk, and camera stuff on the other.

Another problem that I don't have a good grip on is since it IS desktop, and small and close, etc, I don't have a good way to manage/hold the flashes. Typically I just set them on blocks of wood, but things fall over all the time! A house of cards

Yeah, I've been having fun this morning/afternoon. I have very little space, so spend a bunch of time moving things around constantly. I use a sheet of printer paper on the desk, and up the front of the printer. The tripod is on the floor, as close as I can get to the desk, and the flashes are just standing on the desk, one to each side. Not totally convinced I have the best arrangement yet, but working on it!

Doing is learning. And IMHO, having fun is an absolute requirement  :-)

big progress!
As Bill recommends, two sheets of paper towel on the right. Flash on the right. Tin Foil on the left. Concave diffuser added on top.
So, now I've got two flashes at 1/2 power. Might have to add a little more paper, I need a little more diffusion. I was also able to go from F/7 to F/11.. Lots more light.
And, first thing I did was heavy color correction. All the time I've been shooting been thinking that the warm reds were what they were. Thank you Bill and oldtigger!!!!!

Just goes to prove, if you poke the bear with sharp sticks long enough, he will eventually wake up.
Now that you have color to go with your great lens quality we'll have to start judging you by a higher standard.

This looks so much better!!!! I might suggest to try reducing your flash power/duration before you add more diffusion material. I'm not certain if the foil may be causing slight issues :?:

thank you Bill - here is the setup - a pic is worth a 1000 words. I love that tin foil on the LEFT, it seems to be reflecting diffused light fairly well. To your point, since I have two flashes in play, I might be able to flash faster!

Looks like a crude Spider MRI. Is there a way to diffuse the light reflecting from the foil (between the foil and subject)? I think it's possible that the foil is refocusing the diffused light......de-diffusing :?: Just a thought ;) Or, convex vs. concave of the foil :?: (thinking out loud) :|

LOL, hang another strip of paper -- love those pencils, this damn thing is very adjustable!!!
Also, perhaps my top light is too hot.
HEY WAIT a minute. I just saw the CRUDE word. This is NOT crude!!!!! Unrefined perhaps.
