...come out with a competitor to the Canon 7D Mark II? I was out shooting Eagles today, and as I was standing next to guys who had the 7D2, I was impressed by the speed and the silky smooth sound of the shutter.

Will Nikon ever compete in this area?

Not in Nikon's wheelhouse.

Besides, the 7DII is yesterdays technology. Nikon would have to REGRESS a couple of years to produces a similarly spec'd camera.

Why is it not in their wheelhouse? They produce a great pro body...the D4/D4s. It doesn't makes sense.

Nikon doesn't do that so you can buy the Canon.

Huh? Why do they "do" the D4S?

The Nikon D7200 outperforms the 7D2 in every way with the exception of frames per second (6fps vs. 10fps), and does so at a much lower cost.

But your pics looked much better than theirs. How the shutter sounds isn't really all that important.

Nikon just doesn't take crop cameras seriously. The D7200 is a great camera with a better sensor than the 7DII, giving better dynamic range and better ISO performance.

However, it falls short in FPS, build quality, and AF options (heck all of the 7DII 65 AF sensors are cross type, as opposed to just a handful of cross types on the 7200).

The D7300 will probably come closer...

EDIT: That said, there are a LOT of people who have had issues getting solid AF on the 7DII and have had to go through a few bodies to find a good one. So, it's not all roses over there :)

Nikon is like the Harley Davidson brand. It has reputation to upkeep: Loudness. (Who wants a silent Harley?)

  :XD:

Don't care for "machine gun shutter release" I pick my shots, don't spray and pray -- with anything. I can shoot fast enough for my needs with a film advance lever. Even though both my Nikons have burst capability, I have never intentionally used it.

As to Harleys, that is a different subject -- Like old Indians or Vincent Black Shadows

You must be joking. Then again, you're probably not.

Nikon makes more money selling D4s than selling the camera that in the range of the 7D Mark II.

Yeah...it seems that this might be true. A real sport/wildlife crop sensor body from Nikon might be wishing for too much.

It's true that the early 7D2's had some focusing issues. It seems to have been straightened out at this point.

@ MTShooter - I disagree that the 7200 is superior in everyday to the 7D2. Can you please give a link to a comparison?

lol. They'd make even more money if they made a competitor "in the range" of the 7D2.
