An interview with smithdar,
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Always wanted to do it. I retired at age 62 and bought a camera.
2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I belong to a camera club and take a few classes from time to time. I mainly like landscape and nature.
3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
I don't know. You can just feel it. It's that wow factor.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
Nikon d7200. Only light was from the candles. Black background.
5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Lightroom and Photoshop. I just go right down the menu and decide if it needs that particular process.
6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I really appreciate Ugly Hedgehog simply because it keeps me shooting and thinking of the different themes. The more you do in quantity and variety the better you are going to become.
7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
Not really. I was going to have my wife holding one candle and I the other, but I just didn't work out that way.
8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
That you make photos, not take photos.
9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Tripod
10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I use an 18 to 270 for 90% of my shooting and am very happy with it. I hate changing lenses.
11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
None. I have used a reflector a time or 2, but just about never flash.
12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Probably just get old and die.
13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
My biggest thrill is that one of my granddaughters is getting into photography.
14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
smithdar1948 on Instagram.
http://www.instagram.com/smithdar194815) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Keep on shooting and look at subject from different angles and heights.
