Just wondering, if you had a choice of having only one lens for your camera, which one would you keep and why?

It just depends on what I'm shooting. I have favorite lenses for what I'm shooting and I don't believe in one lens for everything.

I guess may favorite lens is the one I'm using.

The one that is attached to my point & shoot or bridge camera.

For everything else the reason I have owned SLRs and DSLRs is to be able to change lenses, so choosing a single lens defeats the entire object of the exercise.

My 24-105 is my go-to lens. If I could only have one, would have to be that one.
But your title is more dramatic than that !
It says, "never give it up", lens.
My 24-105 is just my most used lens, NOT my favorite lens. The 24-105 has no passion!!&
My favorite, never give it up lens is my 200 f1.8. Now, THAT lens is simply AWSOME!!!!!!! ;-)

For my 60D, I have a most amazing EFs 15-85. I don't think that I will ever off it.

I have a 6D and a cookie cuts L. It can be rplaced and perhaps will!

Well said. I'm slowly building out my lens collection, but I want all of my lenses to fit that 'never give it up' category. I'm trying to follow a 'best in class' philosophy. As an example I have two lenses that might fit in the 'nifty fifty' category. One is the very cheap and cheerful Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. Not bad, not great, but inexpensive. The other is an adapted Canon FL 55mm f/1.2 lens (circa 1970), that is a 'never give it up' lens. I would put the adapted FDn 135mm f/2.0 in the same category.

It is all subjective and at the end of the day it is budget and purpose related....

35mm fast prime. The best single general purpose focal length for those of us that love primes. Not too wide, not too long, just right!

It would be easier for me to pick the one lens that I would get rid of first. Since I have a 24-105 f/4, my 24-70 f/4 would be the only one I would be willing to part with. I would not even consider getting rid of any of my other ones.

During the film era, my favorite lens was a Contax 45mm f/2.0 Zeiss Planar T* I purchased for my G1 rangefinder camera. Great contrast and color rendition and very sharp.

On one camera it is the Olympus M-Zuiko Digital 40-150 f2.8 pro.

On another camera it is The Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens

On my Canon DSLR bodies it all depends on the shoot.
