Wacom problem

After several hours of practice with a Wacom Tablet I cannot seem to get the curser to move smoothly and precisely enough when editing in Photoshop. Am I doing something wrong? Have I set up my Wacom tablet correctly? Or is it that I’m just ham fisted when it comes to using the pen?

For 15 years I have used a mouse to carry out fine and accurate work in Photoshop and although I was satisfied with the results obtained, recent posts persuaded me to look more closely into using a Wacom Tablet. Nearly all the You Tube videos I looked at made the point that the tablet would be faster and more accurate to use than a mouse. Aaron Nace even said, “If I didn’t have a Wacom tablet I don’t think I would do Photoshop anymore”

Although it’s a long time ago I don’t seem to remember having the same difficulties when starting out with a mouse that I’m having now with the tablet, but perhaps it will take another 15 years to get the hang of the tablet.

I have a Small Intuos Pro, set up to use about a quarter of the Tablet Area as suggested in some of the videos.

Any help would be appreciated from members who have overcome (never had) or given up on the same problem.

I have the Intous medium and the 13HD Touch Cintiq. Not using photoshop, but in Lightroom (Adjustment Brush) seems to work just fine. No delay at all. I just couldn't use the brush with the mouse, so the Intous and especially the Cintiq really help..

Your PC/MAC hardware maybe an issue? I have a i7 based PC.

On a PC, your "mouse" settings affects the pen movements. Hit START-CONTROL PANEL-DEVICES AND PRINTERS-MOUSE and try altering the speed of the mouse.

Are you using it wireless or plugged into your computer? I believe I have the same model you do and tried to use it wireless and it just didn't work right, but I can't remember what the problem was.

Here is a trick I learned from a graphic artist. Tape a sheet of regular printer onto the top of the pad. This will give you a better non slip feel when using the pen.

Thank you for your reply. The tablet is plugged in via USB.

There seems to be no delay problem but I,m not able to move or make a selection with the curser any where near as quick or as accurately as I can with the mouse. Thank you for your comments.

It takes a day or longer to "adjust" to a device that is mapped to your screen (the tablet) vs a mouse that can be scooted in place to get it to a particular spot on the screen to make a selection. Keep at it. It might help if you could describe exactly what you are experiencing and what you are trying to do....then others can provide better guidance.

I think have the same tablet as you I am still learning to use it but I think I am impressed so far. The biggest difficulty is learning that you have to place the stylus at the point on the tablet that correlates to same spot on the monitor.

However I didn't know that you could decrease the "working" area of the tablet. That sounds good to me. Going to have to look tht up.

In order to do a better job of helping with troubleshooting computer/applications issues it helps to know exactly:

What type of computer you have PC or Mac and version of the operating system?

Any recent updates to the operating system or to the application in question or changes you have attempted to make.

In this case with the Wacom Tablet (I own one) there can be "driver software" issues with it that will cause the pen to function improperly and it can be corrected easily by downloading the latest driver for your operating system.
