This is why I am totally and completely against the concept of "renting" software for personal use. :(
This whole "cloud" thing is subject to events BEYOND my control... something I hate when MY hard earned money and potential earnings are at stake. :x

I agree with you totally. If you loose your internet connection for any reason, then you are out commission for whatever length of time it takes to get it up and running again. As noted here, it is subject to "Murphy's Law" and stuff happens.

Losing your internet connection does not necessarily IMMEDIATELY prevent your using the software - it takes at least 30 days or perhaps even as many as 90 days of no connectivity to prevent the software from functioning.
Ever had an outage for more than 1 or 2 days?

You don't understand the subscription service, based on your comments. So, rather than trying to convince everyone how smart you are by NOT subscribing, just be happy with where you are and let everyone else be happy with their decision. Not everyone has your opinion.

Cholly, it is clear that you are superior to me in your understanding of Photography, Photo Imaging Software, and probably the whole "Internet thing." Despite being fairly expert at Diagnostic Imaging, I am humbled by this whole arena of IR-to-Visible Light-to UV Imaging and Processing thereof, intertwined directly or indirectly with the Internet. As a slightly knowledgable layman regarding computers (beyond the applications I had to learn using about 5 different computer systems contemporaneously in my everyday work,) I've been learning a good deal from these other UHH people as well as from you. As a "friend," though, this time I must agree with brucewells' assessment of your remarks in his concluding paragraph above.
I'd like to suggest to everyone to also consider participating in a site I was somehow introduced to a few weeks ago: Quora.com .
It has a multitude of subjects, from Art to Medicine to "picking your nose." One may choose as many subject areas as one wants to participate in. However, they do not put up whatsoever with some of the racist crap I've found here and they've got one feature I find annoying: they police one's answers using a combination of programs (which can be ridiculously simplistic,) and actual human beings.
Peace,
