I have the CC subscription, and have used LR for several years, and love the program. However, this am I went to export several photos to a thumbdrive, and got some sort of error message regarding my catalog. The program then showed a window which wants me to sign-in for a trial version. After several attempts to bypass (I am definitely not overly computer software savy), I restarted the computer. My LR has now disappeared. It still shows as a shortcut, and in my programs, but when I open them, it defaults to the Trial Version sign-up. Anybody have a clue as to what the heck has happened, and how do I get my LR back.

You probably should contact Adobe support. Do you have the license key as well as the original install file? I'd make a back-up copy of my catalog before doing anything. Create a new folder and copy the files from their current location to the new location. With the install files, if available, I'd re-install again and make sure the catalog includes all my last edits. If not, copy that back-up over the catalog from the install. Adobe can help with the install files and / or the license key.

I think I will have to contact Adobe. I have photo files, but no catalogs. I mean LR6 has totally vanished from my computer, all I have is my LR Photo file.

This is why I am totally and completely against the concept of "renting" software for personal use. :(

This whole "cloud" thing is subject to events BEYOND my control... something I hate when MY hard earned money and potential earnings are at stake. :x

I have CC on my desktop and the stand alone LR 6 on my laptop. They both keep popping this up, plus asking me to sign in again to keep using it. I usually just click the x in the upper right, but the sign in page I have to click "sign in" and then "Last Pass" provides it my password and it is happy for a while.

I have contacted Adobe support when it wouldn't do anything once. They seem to be familiar with the problem to the point of having the instructions for fixing it memorized and in a form letter type e-mail.

The stand alone also kept converting itself to CC 2015 and they had me open another account with a different e-mail address just for the stand alone. It still sometimes wants to upgrade through the "Adobe Cloud" which would convert it again. I click no on those requests and then upgrade through the help menu in LR 6.

They are really determined to get everyone on the subscription. And the software to get everyone to upgrade is flawed, or just set to not take NO for a long term answer.

CHOLLY, you won't be just be "blowin' in the wind" if you reply to my request(s), here or in another Topic/thread if what I'm asking is considered to be a form of highjacking.

My motive is simple: I'm debating between purchasing Lightroom 6.x and Lightroom CC. The latter option looks like a better deal, IN THEORY. So here's my set of related questions?

Have you or others (besides the original Poster of this topic,) experienced previous "memory lapses" that LRCC or on-line subscription services such that the only recourse for those not that computer-literate had was to contact the Administrators of the on-line services? If so, did you ever have a recurrence of the same problem with that on-line service again? If so, what made you keep using the service?

I've only been burned once, but it was small change $-wise. Via my Apple iPad 2, I bought two individual issues of a well-known Magazine that has an online version. For a couple of months, both issues were open to me "for the reading." Then, both disappeared as legitimate purchases.

Thank you.

Lev29, let me jump in here since you asked for others opinions/issues:

I have subscribed to CC for over a year now, I originally downloaded Lightroom Trial prior to signing up with CC.

When I installed CC, the first step was to install Photoshop and Bridge of course, then I found that I was unable to get Lightroom installed, working in a chat session with Adobe I was able to get Lightroom 5.x uninstalled then Lightroom CC installed - since then it has been no issues.

Remember, the CLOUD is only where licensing resides, all software and images are on your computer under your control.

With Adobe CC you only need to connect to the internet every so often (every 30-90 days) to let the CC app communicate that you are still subscribed and your software continues to function. With Lightroom, if you unsubscribe or if you do not maintain a connection then it will cease to allow access to SOME of the functions, you will always have access to your images.

Lev, Don has to speak to the "CC" experience. I am totally and completely against paying for something multiple times.

I have YET to have any problems with my standalone copies of any Adobe software. And yeah; I have to purchase any upgrades... which I only do IF there are clear advantages. I am STILL using PS CS5. And LR 5.7. Both do everything I need and I know how to use each like the back of my hand.

So... no cloud for me for any reason.

You buy a license just as you have been doing for years. There never has been such a thing as buying software, companies only ever licensed you to use it. Did you ever read a license agreement, or did you just accept it and move on?

Pardon me, but you will need to turn the switch back on.

I'm going to assume you have some version of Windows from the reference to "My Programs"

Do you see a program folder for Adobe? You must be seeing something if you're being prompted to start a trial so LR isn't completely gone. Is Adobe CC in the list of programs? Find that and run it, the CC app manages your connection/subscription/installation of your Adobe CC Software. It should show you if LR is installed. You will also need to login to the CC application with your Adobe account. It's quite possible you just just got logged out when the program crashed and reconnecting your account will fix things up... Maybe...

LOL You'd best not look into the archives on this board - you might be shocked with how many folks have had problems with software they bought at the local store with no subscription whatsoever.... things break, software crashes :) the world is an imperfect place cloud or no cloud....

When I had a problem with my Cloud, my doctor gave me a prescription.
Now, my personal cloud doesn't smell like roses, but it isn't so bad that folks run for the exits.

This post provided ME with a laugh today.

Of COURSE I understand how software licensing works. It should have been CLEAR to you based on the content of my post in context with the theme of this thread EXACTLY what I meant....
