Well, it is with sadness and anticipation that Friday I say goodbye to my faithful XP computer and set up my refurbished Windows 7 Pro i5 64 bit computer.

My first thing (after turing it on) is the install windows 10 pro. Then install other programs.

Some crucial programs that I use are not fully supporting XP anymore. And my PP program (ZPS) latest upgrade no longer will work in XP.

It is time to upgrade even if it seems coerced.

Thank you for listening or laughing.

Windows 10 is, apparently a very invasive program, from what I have read. I have Windows XP64 Pro and in a dilemma whether to go with Windows 10, I do have a lot of software programs, or look at a MAC. Remember to turn off those tick boxes in the settings in Windows 10.

I've been advised to NOT upgrade to Windows 10 until the free upgrade time has almost expired. By then they should have a service pac out to smooth the wrinkles out somewhat. Recommend the same for you, if possible. Stay on 7 till next spring. djt

Thank you for your kind replies.

I have checked with my two computer type experts and their sdvice is to update to Windows 10 before I load any programs. Their experience with 10 has been good.

Is it a dilemma? I am just ignoring those d*&% windows that keep popping up telling me I get a FREE upgrade...

I currently use Windows 8.1 without any issues. I actually like the Metro Screen better than Windows 7 start menu. I will never use Windows 10 with all its privacy issues ................

When it came time to upgrade from XP, I just bought a separate Win7 machine. I've got two big printers, and two vinyl cutters, than Love running on XP, so, see no reason to rock the boat.

Windows 10 is fine, the privacy invading things can be turned off, and microsoft has said it won't be doing service packs. It has changed its approach to continuous updates.

Do some reading about Windows 10 and be wary of some of the computer advice on this forum, it is very variable and sometimes wildly inaccurate.

You won't be disappointed. I, too, was fond of XP, but technology, as you know, is in a constant state of flux.

I've updated 3 PCs to Win10, and they are all working fine. All installed software is working fine. It's a nice operating system and I am pleased with its stability. You will be too.

Good luck!!

Here is an article explaining what you'll be gaining/losing when you install Windows 10.

I upgraded to Win 10 early on and have yet to have any kind of problem whatsoever. All my software, with the exception of my printer drivers, worked seamlessly from the get go.

Thank you for all your encouragement. To clarify I am upgrading the hardware by getting another computer then upgrading that to windows 10. I will keep my two XP computers around, just not used. I expect the brown truck tomorrow.

I was told that a Win 10 installation automatically un-installs any prior Win OS. Stay with Win 7 Pro; it is a very stable platform. I've been using it for several years since a Win8.1 locked up my computer the first time I used it and had to uninstall it and buy a Win 7.

Wait on Win 10 until they get all the bugs out that seem to mostly be plaguing PP programs; I hear more complaints on UHH than anywhere else about Win 10 problems.

Do you believe everything that you are told? Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean that others will have problems. Many of us have tested Windows 10 thoroughly and have been very impressed with how good a job Microsoft has done. Possibly their best release ever.

Also, an OS upgrade replaces the previous OS by design, unless you decided to set up a dual boot system, which also works. Plus the Windows 10 upgrade allows you to revert to the previous OS for a month after the upgrade.

There have been comments on UHH about Win 10, and many of the problems have been self inflicted. You have not tried Windows 10. What makes you qualified to offer advice? Bad advice is not helpful.
