I can go for a big, fat sausage sandwich at Angela's!

My wife kids me about my "sausage & peppers" sandwich whenever we go to the fair. I love sausage but I hate peppers so I always order it with just sausage. She just shakes her head!

What exposure speed settings did you use? I LOVE the color/light vib. Very nice. I want to try it now.

Went to the Columbia County fairgrounds in nearby Chatham, NY last night to take some shots of the midway being setup for today's opening. Went with a friend who is a far more experienced photographer then I am. Normally I have usually shot in low light using a large aperture, high ISO combo, with or without a tripod. Never used Live View. He showed me what can be done with a tripod, small aperture, and low ISO using Live View and full manual settings, instead of my usual Av. I like the results. I learned that you don't necessarily need a fast lens or high ISO to get interesting results.
All shot at f/10, ISO 100 with a Canon 6D, EF 35mm f/1.4 L and a tripod.
Unprocessed, except in-camera, since they are JPEG.

I was shooting in this manner for the first time. Full manual, including manual focus using Live View to focus and preview my shots. On a tripod, of course. ISO was 100 and aperture was f/10. (I thought I was shooting at f/11). I wanted a large DOF and the smaller aperture really shows off the star effect of the shutter. By watching Live View and changing my shutter speed I could get the exposure right where I wanted it. These were taken just as the sky was transitioning into darkness and it was easy to bring out the dark blue just by changing shutter speed. The slow shutter and low ISO definitely bring out the color. I didn't post process at all but I do use custom settings for what Canon calls Image Style. I haven't even looked at the RAW files yet because I'm quite happy with these JPEGs. I also used the 10 sec timer feature, since I forgot my remote release. My friend did me a big favor showing me this technique. Now I am looking for more night scenes to shoot.

Nice, I primarily shoot at night on a tripod and shoot in live view most of the time. When in live view you have your mirror locked up which means you won't have any shake when you hit the shutter release. And of course I use a shutter release cable. Pretty much only shoot in manual in control all the settings myself. Don't like the camera dictating the settings I want to shoot
