I bought this flash 8 month ago and was happy with it until yesterday. It turns on and communicates with the camera fine but does no fire. Even when I dismount the flash and push the Pilot (Test) button-does not fire. I changed the batteries-no success. Everything seems to be fine-just does not fire.
It’s strange, did anyone have similar experience? Any ideas? Thank you.

About all you can do is have it repaired. Should still be under warranty.

I don't know, don't have one, but I did try with extension TTL cord-didn't work.

The flash is broken. If it won't fire with the test button, then it's definitely the flash. Today I just tossed an old Vivitar 4600 that charges up but won't fire (even with the test button).

Neewer used to have a 6-month warranty. Not sure about now, but if still then it's probably not worth fixing, especially if you have to ship it back to China. Most flash repair costs over $100, which is twice the cost of this flash.

These cheap flashes are really consumables. Buy a bunch, toss them when they break. You're still ahead over buying OEM flashes.

I know, I bought it new from Amazon for this much.
It was a good flash when it worked.
Thank you all.

I know with some flash units they recommend that it be fired a few times every month to reform the capacitor. The manual for my Nikon SB-700 flash recommends this. An old flash, not used for a long time, may not completely charge the first time. Charging, discharging, and charging cycles will reform the capacitor. It can't imagine that your flash wouldn't fire after only 8 months.

I still have my old reliable Nikon sb25 that works great after 20 years. I bought this neewer flash to try ttl mode, it was nice for 8 months :) .

Could try to diagnose what the problem is but the bottom line is, "it doesn't work" and your own options for repair, cost wise, are next to none. Like so many things "imported" that sell for very low prices the one caveat is with "repair options". The cost just to take it apart is almost that of replacement, hence, specific parts are probably not even available. That is both good and bad. The good being, the cost to replace is low. The bad being the "hit or miss" nature of cheap imports. If nothing breaks, it's a damned good value, if it does, well......

I myself wrestled with that knowledge and I finally opted for a used Nikon SB600 in very good condition. Cost was about $150. Was it a better value? So far, after a year, I am very pleased but honestly, only time will tell for sure. My choice was largely based on experience back in the '80's. I had a higher end Vivatar that developed a leaky capacitor early on. I also have 2 Nikon SB16's from the '80's which I bought used back then, and they still function today. I'm not going to tell you that's the way to go. You've still got $100 to match my $150 spent to determine "value". You just have to decide which way to go.

PS: I use Nikon. If you use Canon I would "assume" Canon flash quality to be on par with Nikon but I honestly don't have first hand knowledge.

That's what happens when you buy cheap Chinese knockoffs. I've experienced this many times. Buy good stuff and it can still happen, but less often.

That's exactly what my son has been telling me, but sometimes this cheap stuff can go on and on ... , never know. I just wanted to try ITTL, never had flash with ITTL mode.
