And oh yes - great photos.
That makes sense sb. I love the Horses but it always amazes me how fast folks criticize the Government without knowing facts. The real enemy of folks are big corporations but they own the politicians who than blame Government for all evils! The Photos are great, thanks for sharing.

First off, absolutely beautiful images. As to your question, I don't understand how they are threatening the public's safety. So do the Bison who roam Yellowstone National Park, if people are stupid or ignorant of the fact that they are WILD animals, and yet I don't see the boobs in DC wanting to remove the Bison.
It's a crazy world we live in these days. I say, let the horses continue in peace. And people traveling in the area just to be informed and advised that, "hey, there are many wild horses in the area, do not approach them on foot, keep your distance and be aware they are present even if you can't see them." Do not try and feed them apples and carrots...
Common sense right?

Love the photographs.
I guess that makes two invasive specie. Remove them both and let the wilderness thrive.
This is an old topic in No Western Nevada - system that seems
to work is thin the herds through "round up and adoption " plans.
Folks are sooooo sympathetic of these wild animals as the folks of the USA seem to have forgotten horse meat has been a staple of other parts of the world seance time began. And was in many places here in days of the older generations that immigrated.
Horses were known to the Pioneers & Native Indians as "Sweet Elk"
These horses no longer have their "Enemies" - the cow boy and horse traders are gone, the Mountain Lion is thinned out - hungry farmer/rancher or towns person needing meat are gone too.
To thin herds of other wild animals they increase the bag limit, trap, relocate and adopt out like in NV - it works there why not AZ..
What do you think? Should they "go" or "stay"?
Who, the people? Probably they should go. :)

With all of the wild fires, it is hard for me to see wild horses as a threat.

These are beautiful photos. Just another example of "Big Brother" encroaching there he is not wanted.

We have quite a bruhoo brewing here in the Salt River valley area of southern Arizona. For years we have enjoyed seeing and photographing herds of "wild" horses roaming freely in the Tonto National Forest. Now the Feds have announced that they are going to round up and remove these horses. Wow, has it exploded around these parts. The conservationists and animal lovers are up in arms big time. Many view this action as a threat to the wild West spirit which is enjoyed by many. The Feds feel these horses threaten public safety and the environment.
The two side have lined up for battle.!

As of yesterday, the proposed carnage has been stopped thanks to 110,000 signature petition and a few activists who cared. What was so amazing is how many government agencies slowed, stopped, back-pedaled and finger pointed to avoid bad publicity. It appears the Forest Service will be the wild goat on this one. lol
