We have quite a bruhoo brewing here in the Salt River valley area of southern Arizona. For years we have enjoyed seeing and photographing herds of "wild" horses roaming freely in the Tonto National Forest. Now the Feds have announced that they are going to round up and remove these horses. Wow, has it exploded around these parts. The conservationists and animal lovers are up in arms big time. Many view this action as a threat to the wild West spirit which is enjoyed by many. The Feds feel these horses threaten public safety and the environment.
The two side have lined up for battle.!
What do you think? Should they "go" or "stay"?
I would let thepeople who live in direct contact decide.
We had the same issue in Michigan with the UP wolves and people from all over the country got involved in the fight.
I would have only let the yoopers vote.
Almost forgot, nice pics.

They don't look too menacing to me. What do I know. I live in New Jersey. If they were roaming free on the Turnpike, that might be a public safety issue; but in southern Arizona? Isn't that where they are supposed to live?

Get rid of the people and leave the horses to their land.

Excellent photography, a good subject. I don't trust the Fed's, I always think they are up to something!
Phil
Let's hear it for big government. They want to do everything, and I don't remember voting for that.
I spend the winters in Mesa. I go to the salt river at least twice a week to do some photography. Those wild horses are beautiful and are not hurting a thing. Tell the feds to stay the H--- out of it !!
I sure hope they stay. They make for some great shots and I can't imagine them harming wide open land.
I live in Cordes Junction.

I don't live in the area, and have never visited, but I would definitely side with you on this. They should be left alone, or
at most use periodic 'culling' of the herd to keep the numbers manageable.
One again it would appear man has decided he is the most important species on this lump of rock---- when will these idiots realise its mostly man that is a threat to them.
We have exactly the same here, the " all knowing" ministers are doing very little to protect our wildlife both on land and sea,
I love your set KMP, and hope it goes viral,
Geoff

BLM does the same thing here in Northern Nevada. It's utterly disgusting. Cattle Ranchers drive the decision to rid the range of wild horses contending they compete for fodder. Love your pix and feel for your plight in Arizona.
The sole purpose of the bureaucrats in Washington D.C. is to justify their jobs by coming up with new ways to be what your first photograph shows. A horses behind. No wonder they want to get rid of them.

Wolves are a native specie and help regulate populations of deer, skunks, snakes, possum, and raccoons. Studies have shown that when wolf and coyote populations decline the bird population declines due to increased nest predation by snakes, raccoons, etc. Horses are an invasive specie, and that is why the discussions about moving them.
And oh yes - great photos.
