Have been shooting digital for around 10 years. Prior was only using film. Have owned only Nikon gear from the D40, D300, D5300, D7100, D610 and D810. Also have ten Nikon lenses including the Holy Trinity. I experimented with Sony Mirror less recently due to being 66 and having arthritic hands. Also, travel a lot and always travel with two cameras and the holy trinity. Have found the perfect camera, the Sony Alpha 7 ii with the built in stabilization. Have also bought the Zeiss 35 1.4 and 55mm 1.8 lenses. I have never shot with a better combination. The Zeiss lenses give a 3D effect that is amazing and the camera is beautiful to handle and shoot with. We just had our seventh grandchild and I have decided to purchase a second Sony Alpha 7 ii and a camera harness so that I can use both lenses at the same time during family parties and while traveling. If you can afford it, buy this camera with the Zeiss lenses.

Will do so in about a week. I have also tried the Sony A6000. Great camera. Check out Gary Fong's YouTube video on the A6000

Micky, it sounds like you've found the perfect camera for yourself for what you will do with it.
But don't you think that before you bestow it on EVERYONE, that the perfect camera has more to do with how someone intends to use the camera and less of how YOU use it?!?!
Shooting the Grandkids Birthday parties is a bit different than shooting a Super Bowl??? NO??????

I agree. I have found the perfect camera for me. Photography is very personal. Whenever I have a rough time, I go out and shoot. Using my creative side relaxes me and puts me in another world. A camera that could be great shooting a Duper Bowl would be the Sony A6000. Can get it up to 11 fps. I have become a convert to Sony and Zeiss, but to each their own style and taste

The Sony A7ii is realy good, but the new A7Rii that is just starting to ship is even better. Watch for reviews to start being posted on line.

The only differences are 42 megapixels versus 24, a backlight sensor for extremes low light and a lot more focal points. Too much camera for me.

I could never envision shooting at an ISO of 102000

Those of us that like to do Astrophotography images certainly would find that capability enticing!

I normally shoot night skies at ISO 1600. This would be 6 stops improvement!

And when not doing stars, the huge dynamic range would mean one shot HDR.

I'm tempted. But there is also a supposed APS-C version coming out with the same type BSI sensor. 15.5 stops EV range! Insane!

Where do you draw the line and say this is enough? The Sony Alpha 7ii is my line. The glass is always more important than the body. Always buy quality glass. I still take my 6 meg D40 and shoot with it

Didn't know you were still alive or lived in NYC!! Last I knew when you lived in Dallas you were known for running naked at Preston Hollow C.C.!! However, that was before you passed away from cancer.

Mickey, no disrespect..., but WHAT and WHY would you shoot with a d40?
Seriously, I can't begin to even imagine.
Other than satisfying some primordial urge, you can't do it for some technological advantage. I could see it in a rain storm or dust storm.
My shooting is probably different than yours, but I shoot everything as if my next shot might be, "the one", and I'd be SICK if I took a Pulitzer winning shot and it was with a D40 when I have better tech and IQ cameras at my disposal!!
I'm not saying you need to cart around an 8"x10" but why would you not always use the best you have.
What criteria do you use to decide what will be shot really well and what to be shot really crappy?!?!
Just saying. ;-)
