Excellent shot Regis. The feathers and the face are so finely defined. I have never seen a finer.

I shot this Crow or Raven in the grass at a large park.
I used 896mm total at about 25-30 feet. All black birds (Crows, Ravens, etc.) are hard to shoot and get good detail.

What the hell ! Regis what did you do . It turned into the Hulk . Did it say
You wouldn't like me if I get mad ?

Nice capture, Regis! They are not very similar to the crows we have in our area of the east, which visit our feeders almost every day, and can be viewed from less than twenty feet away.

Thank you very much, Swamp-Cork. We seem to have a lot of crows and ravens here. They are very intelligent birds.

must agree about the detail in the feather. As for crow versus raven all I can say is "nevermore" I had to do it. I have a POEtic license.

From what I have been told, this is a young raven. Thank you, sinatraman. I appreciate your comment.

Nice shot! I was told that Ravens have black beaks and crows have yellow ones. If you are willing to wait and have the time ,put out an owl decoy and that will bring in the Ravens.I had an immature great grey owl fly over my house a week ago with a raven right on his but just tormenting him. Didn't have a camera on me.

Thank you, Pkfish. From what I've been told this is a young raven which has a patch of fur on it's beak and the crow does not have this. I can't tell the difference.

Thank you, Corolyn. I think this is my best detailed shot of a crow or raven. They are hard to shoot with good detail.

Nice capture. Raven crow I've always had trouble telling them apart maybe this will help. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/page.aspx?pid=2501

Nice capture, Regis. Best to tell difference in flight, if possible, since the end of a Raven's tail is round, and a Crow's is flat ("raven-round") .

Thank you very much, wthomson, for this information. We have a lot of crows and ravens here in north Idaho, so it would be nice to know which is which.

Well done. These really are difficult, and you've made it look easy. What I find particularly interesting is the reflected green from the grass on the underside of this bird.

Thank you, Vicki. The sun's reflection off the grass gave the immature raven more detail, otherwise it would be a darker photo with loss of feather definition. All black birds (crows, ravens, etc.) are hard to photograph showing much detail. I would like to see more of your hummingbird photos. Take care.
